How come some cars you can hear the turbo/blow off valves at LOW RPM?
I saw a CRX today and he was going like 2 MPH and you could hear the turbo whistling (wishhhhhhhhh) and then he shifted and it was loud...
I could never do that in my car unless I floor it in 1st and go like 20 mph and then shift.
Is it because he has a small turbo? What about the blow off valve?
I want my turbo to sound like that when I'm going slow.

Or he could just be a fool and likes to stay in high rpms.. although if he was going only 2 mph that would be impossible. As for the BOV, he could have it on a hard setting.. which is really really bad for the turbo. I wouldn't recommend having your BOV on a hard setting.

I didn't mean 2 mph. I meant like 5-10.
But anyways, like in 1st gear, when he started to accelerate, you could hear it!
And i'm assuming he has a small turbo cause in those Turbo Saabs with the factory turbos, you can hear 'em in low rpm.

i noticed ever since i gutted my cat.. my turbo spools at 2000+ rpms sometimes. and if i let off the gas at 3000+ rpms... it still SPISHes. im glad i got me a HKS SS blow off valve. they SPISH even at low rpms. the greddy typeS, the one i wanted before, wouldnt PISH til it reached higher boost pressures at mid-high rpms.

all depends on the size of the turbo. Slap on a small turbo and you'll have that bov all the time.

I saw thisone Integra, it had a H22A + Turbo and at idle, when he was revving, his blow off valve made a loud shriek. I believe it was a Greddy Type S BOV? And he had a T3/T4 so I'm not sure how he did it?

Re: How come some cars you can hear the turbo/blow off valves at LOW RPM? (Turbolude)
hahaha having a bov on a hard setting makes it TIGHER AKA it wont go off on low boost, thats the reason why people ugrade to STIFFER springs on their bov if they're making a lot of horsepower using high amounts of boost. To make it go off at lower boost you must loosen it, and IT IS GOOD FOR THE TURBO. If it doesnt go off after you hear the turbos spooling, that means that the air is trapped between the compressor and the throttle body in which the air travels back towards the turbo etc..... AKA compressor surge. BTW< making it tighter or looser doesnt make it ANY louder, it just makes the bov blow off longer. to make it louder, you must get more air behind it AKA run higher boost.

Then what's really the purpose of having adjustability on the BOV? I never really know where to set my Type S at, just kinda have it in the middle somewhere. I know how it works and what it does (adjusting), I just wanna know the pros and cons of having it way soft or way hard?

If you have it too loose you will bleed boost, the best setting to have it is as loose as possible where you aren't losing any boost.

Exactly, heres what you do, loosen it as much as it will go and go drive your car at WOT, if you hear the BOV go off while going full throttle, TIGHTEN it. keep adjusting it untill it wont blow off while going WOT, but you want to make it as loose as possible wthout leaking AKA blowing off.
