I don't think its a good idea to boost at all when your breaking it in!

do not boost that thang! i know a kid who was impatient and ignorant and he had a fresh rebuilt motor and custom turbo setup on his prelude and he ruined the rings because he did not properly break in and now he is going to be carless for who knows how long. he has a few regrets and i'm sure you don't want that.

It doesnt matter what your boost is set at you cant boost on it anyway or you'll ruin the rings. it needs to be driven for at least 1000 miles before you even floor it. I would break in the motor without the turbo kit if you cant keep your self from flooring it.

Pull the turbo off and break the motor in NA if you want to be the smart man...

if you don't feel like taking the turbo off and ****, just put a normal intake or the stock box on and undo your fuel management. and put something (filter) over the turbo inlet and that will act as your header and will muffle a bit too. as long as your charge pipe is not hooked up then you won't boost at all! remember what you've been told...

That is bad for the turbo too. The turbo can over rev and destroy/wear the shafts to premature failure. I would just take off the whole turbo assembly and reinstall factory manifold and intake.

if you do want to leave the turbo manifold on and turbo...somehow find a way to keep the wastegate open all the way and it won't "over rev the shaft".

I broke my motor in with a turbo installed... i drove like a sane human being, kept the revs as low as possible, resisted all temptation and after a while, got on it once or twice...

you just have to have common sense and not rail on it every chance you get!!!

Write a note on your dash showing how much you spent building your motor and i doubt you will floor it

I'm thinking if you kept the wastegate open all the time it'd be pretty loud and annoying.

i just have a few questions and coments.first the rings will seat after about the first few miles if not you have some serious problems so that means that after about 20-30 miles you should be able to boost not very high to start but just a few pounds.second cars that come from the factory with a turbo what about them they only have say 5 miles when you buy them and they last for a long time 100+k miles.third the ford turbo engine when they first built them they tried to break the engine in then put the turbo on and that wouldn't work so they had to break the engines in with the turbo on.(this is not the case with all engines because you can obviously turbo a honda with 50k with no problem).just a few thoughts.

can i just un hook my charge pipe for like 200-500 mile and then hook it up and boost small for like 800 miles before i turn it up to like 15 or 16 psi

just hook it up and don't get crazy... try not to boost at all, getting ont he freeway for a second or two won't kill it.. but prolonged boost will...

just take it easy on it for a thousand miles.. it's not that hard.. (ok, so it's real hard.. but can be done )

the average person that puts an aftermarket turbo kit on their car doesn't practice a whole lot of restraint in the first place...

if you are really worried about it, just open the wastegate and remove the spring. Voila! Temptation removed.

my point exactly! some people are lazy or it's hard to get to some bolts around a turbo...it just is, or at least, mine was a real bitcher. so before i was able to boost, i was using the turbo and manifold as my header because i sold my pos d.c.'s and had no choice but to roll with a decoration turbo. i did open the wastegate with a wire rig. it's crazy how much attention a BIG intercooler gets. i mean damn...i have 13" steel wheels and now everyone wants to race, i mean EVERYONE. even the crotch rockets???

if you are using total seal rings dont worry about breaking it in, you will be rebuilding it in about 100 miles or so because of it smoking so bad. never use total seal rings. been there, done that, same engine

my engine has arias pistons so i used arias rings and cured the problem. there should have been rings with your je pistons. you can also use factory rings.
remember to rehone your cylinders before installing pistons and do not oil rings,
but do oil piston skirts below rings lightly

with je pistons... u cnnot use oem rings... they are a differant size and u do not need to oil any part of the piston

yes, actually, you can use OEM rings with JE as well as SRP pistons. I've done it quite a few times.

in most cases you can use oem rings with je pistons and oiling pistons below rings
lightly is a good idea to prevent gualding skirts upon initial startup
