Default Holset hx35 blockoff question

if i blocked half of my exhaust housing off with a peice of flat steel between the manifold and the turbo it should help spool but would there be any adverse effects? I am not using a divided manifold so that won't be a factor with flow loss either.

uh what ???????? if you block off exhaust flow from the manifold to the turbo it will kill power and spool responce period.

this is why you buy a turbo that is suited to the application not just to buy and say you have a big turbo.

the holset has a divided hosing and my mani isnt divided. i would only be blocking half the exhaust of the turbo but creating more air speed into the turbo spinnging it up faster

read the holset thread. Doing that does alot more harm than good. Just running it with the manifold u have now would be better. Or some people grind out the divider in the turbo. But read the thread for more info

yeah you cant block off one side of the inlet on the turbo. its going to cause restriction its completely not going to do what you want it to.

you will get exhaust pressure to half of the turbine blade and calso choke the engine. just run it liek it is or get a different exhaust housing

You really need a BEP housing if you want it to spool at all. It will work with the oem divided truck housing but you will gain 500+ rpm of spool with the bep .70 ar for around $200. I radiused my divider and port matched it to a T3 gasket(they are not the same) and I still gained 500+ rpm of spool on my SR20 witht he HX35. Tubular mani, 3" Dp, and BEp housing is the only way to go on the HX35. Anything less and you will get smoked by 50 trims because of the lag. Set it up like I said and you can run wiht if not out run 30R's and BW 256's

it spools by 4800rpms which leaves 3k rpms of boost but i'd just like a bit more. also im using a CSAddict tubular mani which is known for decent flow with the holset

The .70ar BEP T3 housing will be the best $200 you have ever spent on your setup. Look up timsturbo or pm me for his number. It will require a 3" vband DP. What do you have now??
