I much prefer the Type-S over the HKS SS. In my experience, the GReddy BOVs are superior in function and simply sound better.

i have the HKS SSQ and it sounds good to me. i personally dont have experience with the type-s, so i dont know if it performs well. it sounds good, but when it came down to my decision, i went with the hks because ive heard nothing but good things about its performance. and that matters the most to me.

i love my HKS SSQ.
but under high boost, it does indeed sound like a seal being clubbed!
And it looks like some high-tech laser.

Loosen the screw all the way. That fixed it for me. Unless you are running low boost (under 8lbs).
I have had both the Type S and SSQV and I prefer the SSQV. The Type S can leak on high boost applications where the SSQV will not because of the "pull type" design. My $.02.
Oh, the way the SSQV is held on SUCKS ***. I will admit that.

It comes down to personal preference. I personally have the type S, it works and its sounds descent. You'll find some poeple hate it, thinking it shoudns to chiroy, but again it's personal preference. Adjustign it really makes a difference though. I love the way it sounded when i first got it, but then i started mesign with it aned have never been able to get it back to the exact original spot
Enough about sound though, Tial is the best functioning bov on the market right now

Re: HKS SSQ or GReddy Type-S (Atlas)
I've got the Type-S and I'm selling it. Just bought myself a Tial. Loud BOVs are an unwanted attention getter for me, not to mention the Tial is said to be the best functioning BOV.

What about the HKS Racing BOV? My friend has 2 of those for his twin T-66 2JZ. Or is this BOV for crazy applications only?

Re: HKS SSQ or GReddy Type-S (reaction360)
I hate blowing alot of money on a device with such simple function, so I went on ebay and found a BOV that was no-name brand, but all metal. It was made by some stupid compnay like "tkk works" or some ****, it cost me 50 dollars, and it doesn't leak even at 15psi. I have no comlaints. nice decently loud sound of pure air rushing out.
After me spending 50$ and my friend spending 2xx$ on a ssqv, I'd have to say, for 4x the price... they both do the same thing, and it's truly not worth the money unless you are running the sickest race setup. I'm all about function over form-- and max functionality for the least amount of money... so thats just my $.02

Yeah, even at 13 psi it does it. But it so short and quick you barely hear it.

I have the Type S on my 96 hatch. IF anyone has the SSQ on a 96-00 civic I'll trade you the whole arm peice with the blow off valve if you want. I have always wanted the ssq even though I love the type S
