Hits 9 PSI, stays there for a few seconds, then boost starts dropping?
My friends GS-R, he has his set at 9 PSI and it stays at a solid 9 PSI but the boost starts to drop when he hits around 6000 rpm? What could be the problem?

It is called boost spike. It happens when you have a too small of a turbo and not an efficent wastegate.

What boost control is he using? If it is the ball and spring, mine drops about 1/2 a psi after the initial 7psi. If it is an EBC, it could be in the settings..... On my ball/spring BC, I had to make a small hole to relieve the pressure in the WG during shifts. Sometimes the WG would be open during the 1st second of the up-shift. Is he losing alot of power, maybe he has cams gears set with too much overlap.... His set up may help....

It's possible he could have a bad valve in his wastegate. On my old teg I had an HKS which gave me the same problems your describing. Also he should check his BOV and make sure it's tight enough so he's not bleeding boost through that.

or you could have a small vaccum leak. Check all the connections and hoses also. Hope this helps. Peace out

He has no vacumm leaks. Car idles fine. Like if he was in 4th gera and hit 10 PSI, it would stay there...until around 6K rpm, then it would just drop to 6-7 PSI (which is what the wastegate's lowest setting is at). It's A turbonetics wastegate btw. And he has a Manual Ball/Spring type.

I'd put my money on the wastegate...he should upgrade it anyways, Deltagates are known to be very unreliable.
