Default Hit the track this past weekend.. unfavorable results...

I was at the track this past saturday.. got in only 5 runs in 5 hours, that really sucked..

1st up, the basic Setup:

98 turbo LS in a hatch @ 7-8psi intercooled, hondata 2b
3" full exhaust
Nitto 555R's
dam stock clutch (the weakest link)

anyways, here's my times:

1st: 14.055 ET, (no trap speed - the tracks computer was down), R/T was 2.1, beat a built Grand National-probably the driver.
(1st run was the best run of the day)
Last 4 runs: I ran consistant 14.5xx , clutch was slipping badly.. and i kept getting bad launches
My best MPH after the track computer was fixed was: 101.3 mph

I was hoping on dipping into the 13's and even low 13's at the beginning of the day, but didn't expect too much because of the dam stock clutch.. well, i wont be hitting the tracks anytime soon until i get an ACT or somethin..

When i do, i'm gonna be boostin 10 psi.. just curious, what times would i be seein at that boost level w/ the upgraded clutch and the 555R's. Might also run open DP as well to see if there are any additional gains...

Yeah sounds like the clutch is killing your time. Replace that, and it should be closer to where you want!

92HB_HB, look into a company called CLUTCH SPECIALTIES. They can build you a clutch for the street, strip or both. They mostly build clutches for companies that puy there own names on them. Most likely you will spend $250.00 which includes the clutch assembly, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and alighnment tool. Call and ask for brian 714-525-4272. The main reason why I went with these guys, other than the price, was that they are very knowledgeable and explained what I should expect with the application I was purchasing.

I would have to vouch for clutch specialties as well. Bought 2 clutches from them and work great. About 6 other of my friends are running their clutch as well.

that's weird.. cuz i did get my setup dynoed, both on the street and on the dyno.. i only pulled 185 hp 175 ft/lbs on the Mustang dyno at 8 psi.. i know i know.. its pathetic..

the track is at about 800 ft elevation approx.. shouldn't be too signifigant though.. my turbo is a t3t4b w/ a .48 exhaust A/R..

maybe i just had a bad day at the track.. well like i said, i'll give it another shot once i get a new clutch..

times are poo poo. try again with a new clutch. Car must feel strong if you think you should be running low 13s its probably the clutch like you said. Get a CM stage 4. I forgot how much I paid for mine but I know it was well worth the $$

Yeah...should be higher. There's somebody on here with a stock LS motor and Drag kit putting down like 266 WHP.

fuel system consists of rc440's, aem fpr, walbro intank..

its gotta be the clutch.. when I 1st installed the turbo setup, it hauled *** and such... but over the weeks, the car kinda feels like its losing power and not as torqy anymore..

another note, right after i got it tuned, my nephew could spin the wheels in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd w/ no problem.. just a week or two later, it won't even spin the wheels shiftin into 2nd or 3rd anymore.. its as if we're riding the clutch constantly and not allowing any hard engagement what-so-ever.. man I hate this stock clutch, it probably only has 50% life left in it and its only been 38K miles... can't wait for the new one..

forgot to add.. it could also be my dam manifold.. i customed a CX manifold to bolt up to the head.. as u know, the ports on the cx mani are so small that i think its seriously hindering my flow at higher RPM's.. i know i know... i'm gonna get that taken care of ASAP.. hopefully my brother's gonna custom build me one at his machine shop.. full SS.. else i'll just have to buy one like the rest of u guys...

either way, it looks to me like you would benefit alot by upgrading your clutch. go for it

cool, well it doesnt sound like fuel.. but definitly get that clutch in.. its possible your fuel pump could go bad and youd loose power but I think 101mph is too good for anything fuel related to be messed up.. I dunno though, if the clutch doesnt fix it, then ur turbo/manifold setup is just too small cause u could potentially be making ALOT more power..

yup yup, nicely said DIRep972..

clutch is 1st on the list for replacement.. next is the crappy/temporary manifold.. hopefully with these two upgrades, the difference will be night from day...

If I were you, and I wish I was. I would get a decent clutch and a 2 1/2 exhaust. That 3" is killing your setup. You need to make over 400 to your wheels to ultilize a 3" exhaust.

WHAT?? now that's the dumbest thing i've heard?? how can a 3" exhaust hinder performance as compared to a 2.5' exhaust?? we're talkn about turboed cars not NA cars.. the less back pressure the better.... someone care to support me on this??

YUP...

The less back pressure the faster spool up... more efficency...more potential...

and the Turbo it self is such a restriction in flow, that you can have a 5" exhaust, and there will be no lose in power.

Please people, don't post information that YOU have no idea about.

I just know now that some one crusing the internet saw that, and now thinks that 3"'ers are bad.
