Default High Compression Turbo

I am toying with the idea of boosting my LSVTEC.
Right now I am sitting very high with compression, 11.4:1.
I have a GE sleeved 85mmX95mm B18 (2.2L) with a ported B16 head. ARP everything
I am running Rocket Motorsports M24x cams, but those will get ditched in favor of a more turbo oriented cam.

I understand the dynamics of compression and boost, and my goals would be very low boost, medium sized turbo, like a t3/t4 .82ar, to support the displacement.

What I'm curious about are people that have successfully attempted this feat.

I autocross and track race, but I want to experiment with higher horsepower.
On the street I expect to run 1-5psi on pump gas, and on the track 7-12psi on racegas. The motor is tough, and I'm tuning with NepTune. I feel 400whp is a feasible goal on race gas. It already makes 230whp all motor.

I never fathomed this as a good idea till my tuner suggested it. Something to kick around. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

its funny how anyone who makes an all-motor B series always just ends up boosting in the end, because all motor B's are useless.

11.4:1 is a little high,

you should be able to get away with it on pump gas, throw a thicker head gasket on there.

if you can get it to 11:1 then youd be solid.

with a good exhaust manifold you should make more power with the cams.

Compression merely limits what you can make on a certain fuel grade. Which fuels are available in your area? Do you have access to E85?

Its all in the tune. I ran .8 bar on a stock AP1 with pump before.

u should of just went with boost first... ...but yeah your Compression his high but no too high...the best way for you if you want to boost it on a safe level is buying a 5 layer Cometic head gaskets....there for it will drop your ratio by far...which will make it more of a safe boosted car...

thanx for the info! For my AM application I will look into more quality headers. I have a TopSpeed, but I'd like to junk it in favor of an SMSP.

I appreciate the feedback and good words. We do not have E85 in Alaska. I can get 108 unleaded Torco racefuel, and Trick 110 leaded, that it.

96leatherhatch, what are you tuning with, your setup sounds way similar to mine?

Are those pistons forged? As long as they are forged, your compression can get you mid-high 200 WHP without a problem. I would assume that this motor wil be properly tuned by someone who has experience with high compression boosted setups.

Yes, I have forged JEs, and my tuner plays with high CR turbos, as well as Rotorys and diesels. He's multifacited. lol

Yeah I definitely wouldn't run 12.5+ on boost and pump gas.

Race gas changes things though, octane FTW!
