I have 1991 CRX 2nd gen. D16A9 with forged internals converted to OBD1, Hondata S 100. I checked compression, boost leaks, exhaust, fuel pressure and AFR while boost and this is ok - up to 4-5 bars fuel pressure and AFR ~11. Boost is controlled with Greddy boost controller, stable up to 7000 rpm. So i have above 6000 rpm: 1.1 bar of boost, AFR 11, fuel pressure 4-5 bars and no much power. My theory is that engine does not ignite well above 6000 rpm.
Any other comments, I can check much more just a couple of good guys around the word could finally solve that issue

What turbo are you running? It could just be out of steam up top. Even on a stock ignition, the engine should ignite well enough to get you to 500-600whp no problem. Unless you've got some whack timing being thrown around up there.

Check your plugs...what do they look like? Maybe plug gap is too wide?

I have TD04-16HL turbo (from volvo 850R 250 hp) before that i had k04 (from audi TT 225hp) and had same issue, no more that 250 hp. I have new NGK plugs gaped to 0.7 mm. I did some testing with stock 1.1 mm gap and the I lost spark while boost, with 0,7 mm engine run smooth on high boost. I set timing on idle to 16 deg-stock, checked TDC with gage to make sure sign on pulley i right.

I haven't talked on this thread in about a month, but I wanted to give an update.

I'm currently in the middle of my cam/valvetrain swap right now. It's going slower than I would have liked (probably because head is on the car still). But I should have it done hopefully this week. Then I'll call up the tuner and see about getting it on the dyno ASAP. Hopefully I get this power issue solved with the new cams, distributor, and proper resistor sparkplugs!

Just the ignition and plugs should correct the issue, the cams will allow for better power production above what you were doing prior. good luck Mike

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to getting it back on the dyno and really seeing this thing come alive!! I've only experienced it with about 230 whp and I'm shooting for around 300-350 safely

Just wanted to update the thread....

I've installed my cams, but I'm having some issues getting them to idle properly. Once I figure out the issue, I will do a base tune so that I can get it to the tuner and see what happens

Well, I got the car to idle properly (or at least good enough to get to tuner, lol), but now I'm just waiting to get a tune. My tuner got a job in NY it seems, but still comes down every so often and tunes down here too in Houston. So, I'm waiting to see if I can lock down a time with him to tune the car. Will let the thread know what happens

OK. Finally got my new tune this past weekend...

It made 302whp and 245 lb/ft of torque!

My issue ended up being timing at the top of the RPM scale. My tuner didn't want to push it because he had her some detonation previously in the lower end of the map. But after adding a couple of degrees of timing, the motor really liked it.

I don't have a pic of the dyno sheet yet, but it's sitting here on my desk and I'll make a scan of it soon.

Yeah, it did. I might go back down the line for a race gas tune so I can see what the car is REALLY capable of. But I'll just have to see.

I could have pushed this more, but after I hit 300hp, I just said that's good enough. LOL
