D15B7...how much boost can it handle?
I have a greddy td04h-15g (T25 equivalent) on my mini me (B7 block z6 head) currently set at 6psi. ARP head studs, johnny race car FMIC. I want to know what kind of boost levels people have been able to run with a B7 and a small turbo like the T25 and have it not blow up. I'm thinking in the 8 or 9 range, but I just want to know if other people have had good (or bad) luck with that kind of boost on a B7.

i had a t3 .42 .48 on my b7 at 8-9psi street tuned with uber with conservative timing. it held up just fine until i took the kit off of the car and sold it. ive seen someone on here running a b7 mini-me in the 220whp range but thats pushing it im sure. if i remember correctly he has been running it for awhile also tuned on uber. i would keep it around 180-190whp it should be safe as long as you have the a/f ratio right and conservative timing.

Re:
Its not the boost level that will kill the engine, its the power that it puts out.. If your turbo is maxed out at 7psi then turning it up isnt going to get you any more power..
A B7's safe point is about 180-190whp or so.. I dont care if your running 1000psi from your turbo, if your not putting out the power then its not going to blow(unless other things are involved).. If you have a T3-super60 on there then you wouldnt be at 7psi, it would be less because its making power with less boost..
Just keep your car at 7psi until you can get a bigger turbo..

Re: Re: (tgreaves)
you should be fine around 180whp-190 like tgreaves said.
i had a b7 boosted in my hatch for about 5 months. i didnt have a boost gauge but i did turn up the boost on the stock wastegate. (t3 .42/.48) so if the stock WG is set at 7-7.5psi i think... then i MUST have been at 10psi ATLEAST...
it over boosted one day... i hit full boost at 3500 and by 4500rpm... MY NEW CLUTCH SLIPPED!.... and by the way it pulled- id say it pulled harder than my friends (stock) '04 5.7 GTO. even before this, i could smoke a gsr crx easy
all in all... the turbo blew before the motor luckily that day.. it wasnt as fast after that. I thought i blew my rings from all the smoke.
took the head off to do a mini-me and the cross hatch is still on the walls. No sign of oil ANYWHERE... even in the head.. and i was burning it by the quart every 2 days..
found out the turbo was the culprit... it burned the oil in the exhaust.. i had like a centimeter thick coating of oil in my exhaust.
did the minime and took the turbo off till i got a new one...
that WAS the plan... i kept the turbo oil pan but stuck a bolt in the return line and clamped the **** out of it. didnt leak oil-but leaked out the pressure
TWO days of enjoying vtec and then i spin ALL EIGHT rod bearings...scaring the **** outta the crank...
so that **** can handle... i blew it WITHOUT the turbo
but now, the head is on a four dour i picked up to drive until the hatch is done. heads still in great shape
now im almost done my built z6 to go in there...
my advice... pick up a running z6 block for like 100-150 bux incase you blow the b7. just a piece of mind, itll take you maybe ONE day with 2ppl to swap out the block. happy boosting
