Hey, is it cool to wrap the down pipe with heat wrap?
I'm using the down pipe thats included in the revhard kit, but was wondering wraping the down pipe with heat wrap would cause any issues? I mean, since its near the oil return line, i thought it would be added safety from getting the oil return line too hot.. what do u guys think? it's the kind of heat wrap thats use to wrap headers.
I've wrapped headers (that get glowing red hot) on supercharged cars, had no problems in over 2 years of driving. People say that the wrap can break welds but ive never seen it happen. Just make sure you only overlap the wrap by about 3 cm so its barely covering itself, try not to wrap it too thick. I wrapped the downpipe on our Greddy kit to try and keep heat from the oil pan and lines.

do it the other way around.
slip the oil line in some Fyrejacket insulation at the spot where it is near the downpipe. Works great!

you want the DP and the manifold to be as hot as possible...
wrap the oil return, leave the DP and Manifold as hot as possible, it needs to be hot and let ir cool slowly..

Wouldn't wrapping the DP keep it as "hot as possible" and let it cool "slowly"?

Hey.. that firejacket stuff is expensive.. Any cheaper alternatives?
I wrapped mine in adhesive aluminum tape, and it's been fine for 7 months now.

exhaust gasses move faster when hot, this is why keeping the dp hot is good... a heat wrap would help retain more heat... in fact wrapping your whole exhaust will provide a small gain in power.
Will wrapping the dp make it more likely to crack? My dp's structural integrity is already a bit sketchy as it is...

If its not broken, don't fix it.

Correct, hot air travels faster than slow dense cool air.
