I have a 2000 SiR. I've tried trimming the fuel -10%, -12%, -15%, -20%, -30%, -35%, -40%, and -59%, all at idle, and it still won't start. I have second gen DSM 450cc injectors with 10watt, 10 ohm resistors. Everything seems to be wired up right. The injectors have not been cleaned, but were running when they were taken out. Is my problem most likely dirty injectors? Thanks.


Edit: Forgot to say the injectors have about 70k miles on them.

I had this same problem when I first installed my 450s. More than likely, If you're initial setting was only -10%, you ran mad ricj and flooded the bitch and possibly fouled your plugs. Let it sit for a day, set it SMC to -35-40% and try again. I took everything apart and sprayed WD-40 into the combustion chamber and into the injectors. They worked after that. I don't believe it was necessary, but I use WD-40 on EVERYTHING!

i had the same problem.. heres how i fixed it. first reset yoru ecu. then take out your plugs and clean them. then set idle at -40% and 1 at -40%. that should do it.

well first off i would recommend getting them cleaned. also, you may want to try eliminating the priming stage before startup. i've heard this will solve the problem. to do this, you have to put a switch inline with your fuel pump. you may notice that right now when you turn the key to run before starting, that the fuel pump comes on for 2 seconds then turns off. what you will do is, turn off the fuel pump switch, turn the key to run, wait two seconds, turn on the fuel pump switch, then start the car. i dont know if this will help your situation or not, but i've heard its helped several people. on a side note, are these the blue topped injectors? or are they a different color? i installed some cleaned blue tops this weekend along with the smc+ and have had no troubles yet besides some minor problems.

i had the same fuggin problem only thing i didnt mess with presets...gotit working weirdest way but cold starts are still hard as ****..upgraded to RC 550's they should be here tomorrow

Update: Still can't get it to start. I took out the plugs and cleaned them. Tried a bunch of different idle settings again. Started at -40%. Checked the plugs after and they seemed ok but wouldn't start. Took less and less fuel out. Went all the way to -10% but still no luck. Checked the plugs now and they were visibly wet. Also tried setting idle-1000rpms and 1000-2000rpms both to -40% but still didn't work. Could the injectors still be the problem even though all the plugs got wet with fuel?

And I heard that sometimes it's hard to start a car with DSM injectors. Is there a trick to it? I tried turning to key longer, and the car would turn on for a second then die again. Maybe I'm just not doing it right.

check your fuse.......and also reset your ecu so there wont be any code.

the only trick i know of is what i posted above. have you tried that yet? i would highly suggest it. you have nothing to loost but 20 mins of wiring in a switch.

i unplugged one injector and cranked car..usually ityll start a lilttle rough..kill car replug injector and car will start right up...very weird

i read somewhre on this board about dsm injectors and someone posted that it's better to have 10-ohm 20watt resistors instead of the usual 10-ohm 10watt resistors. how bout trying these as a last resort..

we went through the same thing with my gfs car. we traced it to a bad set of injectors. If you can, try another set...

Help!!!

I STILL can't get the fwaking car started. I've...

-gotten injectors professionally cleaned
-made sure all the clips/resistors/SMC connections were good
-cleaned my plugs and checked for spark
-fully charged battery
-reset ECU
-tried a bunch of different settings on the SMC again

I did come close once. It actually idled for a full second, maybe even two.
I don't know what else could be wrong. My car is pretty new, and everything should be ok. I am coming to the conclusion that I just got unlucky and got a set of those rare DSM injectors that don't work well with Hondas. Any input would be appreciated!

i would have to say this is the most logical thing to try next. either risk it by buying another set of dsm's, or pay a little more up front and get some RC's which you KNOW will work.

RC's are expensive though. Any other good, but cheaper injectors you recommend?

have u tried brand new ngk plugs? i fauled mine out and cleaned them and it still wouldn;t start bought a new set and it fired up on the first crank. id try some new plugs.

Man I have been through this with RC's and its happened any time I have installed really big injectors in a Honda. I may be wrong and there may be something wrong with the injectors you have but if I had to bet on it, I would say that if you had an after market FPR such as AEM with an ajustable orifice to lean our your idle Fuel Pressure...I mean really lean it out.. 450's are big for a honda.. Then I would say with much tunning and cleaning your plugs numerous times to get all the gas burnt off them that you would eventually get it running good... I tried and tried to lean my car out enough to idle with a B&M FPR but never could get it lean enough...the AEM worked fine with the small orrifice in and new plugs..

OH yeah instead of cuting wires and installing a switch for the fuel pump just unplug your fuse for the fuel pump(it should be labeled in your manual) This does the same thing without all the wiring...etc

Do you have any pics of your set up w/ the injectors installed. I have a 01 gsr and i am getting ready to put the blue top dsm 450's in my car w/ a resistor box. What clips did you use and do you think you can tell me what the easiest and cleanist way to do this cheap injector conversion. How did you go about swapping the clips?

It finally started!! Set it at -45% at idle, turned the key for a few seconds, nothing. But instead of trying a different setting, my bro-in-law suggested to try it again, but a little longer this time. And what do you know, it actually started! It took a while, but it started. Hopefully it'll start consistently from now on. I was surprised to it needed that much fuel correction. Oh well. Thanks again everyone for your help!

Sorry, I don't have any pics. Even if it did, it wouldn't really help because I used 4 inline resistors. And it definitely doesn't look clean. As for the clips, I used clips from a Dodge Colt I got from the junkyard. They were easy to find because no one wants parts from a Colt.
