Default Has anyone had this problem with the OBX manifold....

So Im at the dyno today to see what the R will do with some new parts I have just installed on it, one of which being an OBX turbo manifold. well I know they are prone to crack so I had it properly braced be for I installed it. But the problem is the car is not holding 12 psi its over boosting to like 25 psi and we changed the tial wastegate like 3 times and checked all the vac lines. The only thing we can think of now is that the tube that the wastegate is attached to is not big enough at the collecter causing most of the exhaust gases to bye pass the wastegate and cause it to over boost...
Anyone else have this problem?

On a side note, the car was making 300 whp and 225 Trq @ 5500 rpm at 20 psi, so it was making good power...

It made 300whp at 5500 RPM's at 20 psi, we didnt rev the car any higher then that.....

Thanks for clearing that up Josh! I was starting to worry about you thinking 300whp was good with 20psi. Whew! Good ish at only 5500 though. I saw the car up there didn't kknow it was about to be dynoed, Shad must've called me after he left the dyno then. Hope to get your problem worked out and redyno all the way to REDLINE!

There was a problem with the Spark style but I dunno if the OBX has it as well. The port for the wastegate it too small and will spike if you leave it that way. You'd have to open it up and match it to the wastegate.

Well Terry we finally got the boost to hold at 10 psi up to about 7800-8000 rpms and the car made 301.9whp and 199.5 trq so I guess thats not too bad. But this just goes to show when you buy shitty parts like OBX manifolds you end up getting kicked in the ballz later. I guess its time to call full-race and get that T4 manifold...

we opened the hole up to the wastegate and it helped but didnt solve the problem...It just figured that if the manifold didnt crack it waould cause the boost to spike...

just for comparison sake.

my 84.5mm ls block with 60-1 made 330whp@5000rpm on 12psi. very conservatively tuned the first time on the dyno after the build and haltech.

id love to build you a manifold but to be honest it may not be necessary, there is a chance this may work for you.

What happens usually (assuming you are using a tial 40) is that there is a bolt pattern which allows the wastegate to face any of 4 positions. *however* the valve and the hole in the wastegate flange only line up in one position. If you put the wastegate on in any other orientation, most of the wastegate valve is actaully covered up, blocking exhaust gasses from leaving.

take the wastegate off and you will see that the hole on the wastegate flange is not centered. If you dont understnad what i mean, post and ill try to get a pic tomorrow.

good luck! and if this still doesnt work, i know where you can find a full-race manifold
