Is It Hard For You To Boost In First Gear???
well i was driving around today, actually im having some issues with the car, but thats besides the point, i was wondering is it hard for some of you to boost in first? cause im going at like 5 grand at like half throttle or so, and i can't create any boost, but second and so forth i can, i even tried at WOT but thing is i cant go past 6k due to some problems, i made like 3 to 4 pounds of boost at like 5 to 5.5k, i have been reading that ppl be breaking loose and everything in first gear. I have have a pretty nice size manifold leak coming from 2 spots, the wastegate flange that meets the waste gate elbo, and around the head flange area, i was just curious if that leak really makes that big of a difference? but other gears it pulls pretty hard, but it sounds like a beat up car with bad exhaust leaks while boosting, while im switching gears, all i can hear is that damn air escaping (while being in VAC). I dont think my turbo is that big, its only a T3/T4 .60 trim on a GSR, i was also reading some other threads on it saying there isnt enough exhaust to create a big enough load to create full boost in first, some agreed and some didnt, some say i hit full boost in first and break loose some say it takes me a while, and some say its from a leak. If u guys have some insite, this would be much appreciated, TIA

I have always ran oversized turbo's on my GSR and got full boost in first...... wasnt very useful but I did. As far as trying to get boost @ half throttle, I dont think you will at 50% throttle with your car leaking air everywhere.

Re: Is It Hard For You To Boost In First Gear??? (96 GSR-T)
fix the air leaks... i have your turbo i think, its so hard to tell, on my d-series and i hit full boost in first at 3-4 and definetly break the tires loose. But, if i partial throttle it, no boost. Boost is dependent on load/resistance. Go out in first, hit the gas and hit your brakes pretty hard, you'll build boost. In second/third/fourth, it has more resistance, thus being able to build boost. Goind down the highway its a piece of cake for me to build boost in fifth gear. So basically, go out fix those exhaust leaks, cuz those are seriuosly hurting you, and have fun

i might get 3 lbs maybe by redline in 1st with no leaks... but ifx ur leaks that will make a big difference.

yessir ;D I need to try some stickier tires, cus 2nd will spin a little @ about 5.5-6k.. I can't imagine how bad traction will be once the boost is cranked. I'll prolly end up going with either the AVCR or blitz EBC. And maybe play around with some of the diff boost-speed/boost-gear options.
