after people started bring this up i made a point to check mine. before i rebuilt my turbo i had the same problem. just recently i looked at my rpm and boost gauge and i noticed i reace full boost in 1st about 1k later then in another gear. here are my specs:
sohc
t3/t4 .48 a/r turbine .50 compressor
5psi at 5k 1st
5psi at 4k 2nd
5psi at 3.5k 3rd up i spool at a lower rpm because my gears are much longer compared to 1st and 2nd

A good electronic boost controller (like AVCR) will help.

3" downpipe and 3" exhaust will definetly help as well.

I used to not be able to hit boost in 1st gear as well, but then I messed with the settings on my AVC-R and now I can boost full boost in any gear.

use the AVCR start duty on the AVCR to prevent boost lag, it pretty much makes you spike so you can hit full boost earlier in any gear.

AVCR

Could be a number of things.

Soft wastegate spring, not keeping the WG closed completely.

Maybe 1st gear doesn't produce enough load to hit full boost?

BOV leak? (But that would mean low boost for every gear)

Or a faulty/poor boost controller. The AVC-R is a great piece of electronics. Get it if you can.

Ehh... I dunno, my AVC-R has been nothing but a pain, can't boost 10psi without it jumping back and forth from 8-11psi the entire time i'm on the gas. Feels like i'm riding a bucking horse..

That's right, in first gear you should not need full boost. Even in my SOHC, I see maybe 4-5psi in first right before I hit redline and the thing is torque steering on dry pavement. On wet pavement I lose traction even in second gear at full boost.

I second that. Why do you need full boost in 1st. I spend about 2 seconds in that gear.

Wow you guys brought this topic back. I fxed the problem. It was my internalwastegate. It was bad and after I replaced it it holds full boost in first gear.

I hit full boost in 1st when I had a stock exhaust, I just have loads more rpms to have full boost pulling now with a 3" exhaust....

...but then again I have the longest gears known to man, honda 4spd automatic gears baby I'm in boost 70% of the time.

I don't really know if I hit full boost in 1st but when I hit 4500 RPM the tires are spinning right up to redline so I'm not really that worried about it.
