gsr vs lsvtec dilema need help
Posting this here since im going boost either way. I have a 94 ls block at home and along with 2 balanced cranks. One is a GSR and the other an LS....What should I go for...i mean ive hears thing about ls rings wearing out quick due to the r/s ratio...but others say F**K that and they go on for a long time....
im looking for the near 400whp range i basically have everthing and just need to start assembling.....but im a little confused...i mean i dont really want to rev all that much with the LS bottom end but at the same time i have ITR Cams so the gsr would be a bit nicer to rev high....so it all depends basically if the ITR cams are efficient at the RPM range of 8500 RPM or less than i would go with the LS crank.....if not GSR....come out help me out here

gsr would take the revs better ..im lsvtec fully built with itr cams but waiting 2 tune.since u have both cranks id choose gsr. i went ls because i already had a good crank.the guy that built my motor told me i should be fine up 2 9000-9500 but if it makes no power up their no sense of reving that high also depends on ur turbo.

Re: gsr vs lsvtec dilema need help (blackeg)
well yea i have a 62-1....so i would make power up there especialy with itr cams....but i also want decent bottom end power....but at the same time i dont want to have worries about reving up there because it is a bit scary revving up there at times

and im sure you built it perfect. and reving that high takes some good head supporting modifications along with good block supporting modifications for high rev.
nothnig wrong with lsvtec done right

I mean what I would have to question is why did they make a type r motor which at the time was top of the line, with a 87mm stroke...and why didnt they make an ls rev 7000k...im mean you cant argue againts honda engeneering...i think they did it due to the low rod to stroke ratio....and yea ppl do it all perfect but still....i have doubts...like what horsepower difference will i see with a LS crank than with a GSR?

Exactly, if you're doing 9k+, usually you have to dump quite a bit into the head to keep it the power from dropping off. Theres a lot of places that will balance all your parts, open up oil passages, etc, for a fraction the cost of a good head porting. Headwork can always be done later, and is much easier to do the engine is in. That said, properly done LS blocks don't have issues. A local who builds quite a few engines/trans per year has used the same 260+ whp NA B20 block, just rebuilds it to be safe for each season.

But just to be on the safe side...what Horsepower and/or torque differences will I see with an ls crank....i mean if its only like 10 of each i would put on my gsr in a hear beat....i mean balancing everything is only one step...you also have alot more rod/stroke ratio issues
