this guy is thinking about selling his turbo set up to me from a 2000 gsr.....im not sure wat kit it is, but i think i remember him saying its a turbonetics kit....not exactly sure, jus know its a t3/t4 turbo. my question is would everything from his kit be compatible on my 97 LS? and the kit has about 8k on it? how much should i expect to pay he has not given me a price yet?

you ahve to change the upper charge pipe the ls sits higher than the GSR but otherwise everything else will bolt up just fine

Depends really on what all is in the kit, and the condition of the items. Depending on what manifold, wastegate, and engine management it has, a good price may be anywhere from $1200 to $3500.

it has about 8k on the kit....and he's still using that vortech FMU....so everything should fit except for the upper charge pipe? how much do one of those suckers go for? or a better question would be where can i get one?....thanks for the input guys

I would try to pay $1500-$1700 for it, you can probably have that pipe modified to work for real cheap.

how about the exhaust manifold? does that fit perfect even though its off a gsr?

The manifold will fit pefectly. I believe the downpipe is different (it's shorter). But that shouldnt be more than $20-30 to fix.

the kit comes wid a vortech FMU? i did a search on this and nobody seems to like it..... one of my bois wid a DSM is going to hook me up wid a used SAFC for $100....can i use that instead of the FMU for tuning, i do plan on going hondata down the road jus dont have the money for tuning............thanks for all the input guys

I wouldn't recommend using an S-AFC instead of the FMU, because your fuel pressure still will not rise with the boost. I used an FMU on my car the whole time (12:1) and had no problems with it. It's kind of a basic set-up, but it ran a 12.80 @ 99mph (IC piping popped off at the top of 4th) up here at 6000ft-- which is ~ 12.1 down at sea level on the delta gate 7 lb spring (slicks, clutch, removed butterfly valves in intake manifold (GSR)).

My kit was initially for a '99 Si, and I used silicon couplers and cut the upper charge pipe and made it work.

the upper charge pipe can be turned around to fit an ls vs. gsr.

I think the that the charge pipe for the LS is either higher or shorter, other then that you are good to go. I think...

Initially it was just the inline pump that you see there, then later I built the motor and used 310cc injectors (which ended up being too small). Inline pump is very necessary, unless you upgrade the intank pump.

the gsr manifold sits lower. the ls sits higher. now this has no bearing on the length of the piping but it does on the shape. on the drag kits ive seen / worked with the gsr / lls pipes are the same but flipped around... someone correct me if I am wrong.

get your buddy to give you some 450s and use them with the afc. much better than running and fmu. if you don't know... search for "afc hack" or similar.

i have a GSR turbo kit on my LS...and everything is compatible..even the charge pipes...the LS intake manifold sits higher than the GSR intake manifold but it doesnt matter...my pipes still fit the same just maybe a little bit off..

coo coo thanks for the replies guys....he is selling the kit $1800 firm. hows that price? im a newbie, so if u guys can help me out on wat to look for in the kit, like how do i tell if anything is wrong wid the turbo or anything like that by looking at it. b/c the kit is already out of his car.

also i did hear that using a afc is better than a FMU, but i heard that using a afc on a OBD-2 car throws codes? again thanks for all the help guys!

convert to obd1 then, your gonna have to do it l8er down the road if you run hondata ne way

No, as long as you have a missing link on your map sensor, an OBD-II will do just as well as an OBD-I. My car (pic posted above) was OBD-II.
