Default Gsr or LS crank?

I'm in the process of building a 84.5mm b18c1. I've been thinking about using a LS crank and rods. I only plan to rev it to 8500-9k. I don't see a problem reving it that high since it will have gsr girdle. I started thinking about this when a local guy did it with a all motor setup and made 215/168 with just street tuning. What do you guys think? Is the extra tq worth the worse rod ratio? Btw this will be a turbo motor.

It will give you the extra torque of the ls engine, with the benefit of the gsr block strength. Your talking a 1.58:1 r/s ratio for the gsr, and a 1.54:1 r/s ratio for the ls block. That is a 2% difference, yet it gives the engine an entirely different feel and powerband compared to just a gsr crank. You will see a solid 2.0 liters with the ls crank compared to the gsr if you are going 84mm bore. I'd go for it, if i didnt buy an already built 2.0 gsr block from viren, this was my plan.

does anyone see a downside to running the LS crank if I never plan to rev over 9000 maybe 9200? Is the 1:54 rr really that bad? With a b18c1 bored out to 84.5mm will the power differance be worth switching to the LS crank?

I have LS-Vtec sleved and bored to 85mm. The whole bottom end is balanced and I use a crank brace from a type R and it is happy to rev to 9K no probs. The key is to balance the LS crank, some of them I have seen are way off, upto 15 grams out. Use the Ls crank if you can, It will give you more torque.

The LS crank will give you more torque than the gsr however the LS crank might hit the piston squirters in your B18c block.

The 1:54 R/S is a huge drawback if you plan to rev past 9000k. I'd say 8200k at most if you plan to keep the engine long. With a 1.54 stroke you'r going to get considerably more piston side loading vs. 1:64. More side loading = more deformation of cylinder walls. When the cylinder walls lose there shape, you'r going to get more blow-bye and contaminate your intake charge with more oil, which you know = detonation. Even if you sleeve, your rings are going to take a hella beatin.

just somein to think about.

Using an LS crank in a GSR block is the better way in my opinion to do the ls/vtec setup. No oil lines to run and you get to keep the GSR girdle in stock form. You can spin it up to 8500rpm fine and it will make good power.

What has a 1:64 rr? I know a gsr has 1:58 and going from that to a 1:54 is there really that much of a differance?

There is nothing bad about putting the ls crank in a gsr block, other than gaining more torque. There are a few people on this board running this combination, and the girdle fits over the ls crank with no problems (FFGeoff for one). The b17a does run the 1.62:1 r/s ratio, its a stroked out b16a crank.

Which B series motors share the same bearings?

As far as sharing the same bearings, it depends on what you actually need. If you plastic gauge the bearing surfaces your sure to know exactly what sized/color honda bearing that you need. Bearing color is going to differ for every engine, just depends on the wear on the bearing surfaces.

why dont you just get a deck plate form GE with the ls crank and long eagle or crower rod. that way true 2.083 liter or so and that way you get the perfect ratio as well.
