Heh...that's my GE-sleeved h22. Keep in mind that the motor is not bored/honed in that pic, it's as I received it back from GE. I lost a little thickness but not much (I stayed w/ 87mm), I'll try to dig up a pic of the finished motor.

So do you guys think it's the safest to keep the stock bore if going high boost? Just because of problems I've heard and I like being extra safe, I'm keeping my stock bore and planning on boosting about 18-20psi. h22 open decks are already scary enough to go boost so I figured I'd have GE put in new sleeves with stock bore. Am I just stupid???

Hey gsr*lude,

I was think about going 90mm bore on a H22 sleved by GEand then turbo charging. Do you think the block will be able handle 15 - 20PSI of boost? Or should I stay with 87mm or 89mm? Just wanted some input. Thanks

65psi static? Heh, my compression tester shows 230psi static on stock sleeves

Maybe they're just trying to convince you that the sleeve-holding cement won't leak?

I can't imagine that they are touting that number as the amount of boost you can run, everyone must be confused.

Dustin
They pressurize the coolant system to 65psi. I normally runs at 16 or 30, I can't remeber. It is to check for coolant leaks and make sure eveything is installed properly, it has nothing to do with boost.

Umm I am not selling my block. I am looking for one. If I find one and get my turbo done, then maybe I can sell mine. That won't be for a while though.

I think you should stay stock bore. If you mess something up, that gives you the chance to rebore to 89mm or 90mm. It's better than having to resleeve. This was recently brougt to my attention.

To each his/her own. I am not looking to blow my motor and I will be running 25+ psi of boost on my 90 mm bore. I am using Endyn pistons and rods. I will be using Hondata as my fuel management. Go with what makes you comfortable. If you want the stock bore, stay with it. If you want to go ***** to the wall, get the 90 mm. I will post pics. I used a H22A1, Golden Eagle kept my block a closed deck!

Yea, I hear you guys...I have the h22a4, golden eagle sleeves with stock bore, JE 9:1 pistons, and crower rods. I'll take it one step at a time with boost but I'm pretty confident that at 20psi I shouldn't have any problems.

This all sounds very cool to me.....but I have one question assuming that you get your 1.6/1.8/2.2 what ever, bored out. This will no longer be street legal? Pass smog? Dam california laws if so.

I spoke with a tech at GE and he said I shouldn't go with 90mm if I want to boost. Just repeating what he said. I don't really have first hand experience. So I bought the 87mm JE pistons with eagle rods.

Turbo won't pass emissions anyway unless you go with Greddy. You'll have find a 'friend' to pass you for state inspections.

Here is the end all be all. My name is Vince Tiaga from Golden Eagle Mfg. and yes, we pressure test the coolant area for leaks at 65 psi. to make sure there is no water leaks into the oil chamber ( tested at 165 F ) . I also " RATE " my blocks at 60 LBS of turbo boost ( on a running motor with fuel and everything, not static!!!! ) I always tell people, you will blow the head off the block, before you crack a sleeve from us ( Golden Eagle Mfg. ) even up to 85 mm on a B-series. I can say this because we have taken cars to this limit before and they have held up perfectly with no distortion and no headgasket failure ( if using a copper wire o-ring and a stock 3-ply steel headgasket bored to the correct size for the motor, installed with copper spray, ARP headstuds torqued to 78 ft. lbs. and no detonation. ) This may seem like alot of mumbo jumbo, but it is the truth. If anyone cracks a sleeve of ours due to boost pressure ( not including detonation, valve drop or any other mechanical or tuning failure ) and our techs agree that only boost pressure is the culprit for the crack, we will replace the sleeves free of charge and pay for shipping of the block next day to wherever you are. I told one of my customers this weekend at Texas IDRC that if he wanted to beat the car he was up against, he should just turn up the boost!!! 47 lbs. of boost all the way down the track and not one problem with the motor. As long as you have the right internals, tuning and experience, don't be afraid of the boost levels rising past 30 lbs. especially if you are running one of my blocks. Remember this also, the bottom end does not " make " horsepower, it just holds it! Any questions or concerns can be sent to me directly at vince@goldeneaglemfg.com
Thanks for your time.

i was there when Vince told a local shop here in Houston (Hyper Racing) to boost it up to 45psi. Vince said, if he breaks the block, he will replace it, the car ran fine with no problems. Golden Eagle is a good proven product that we will all be running.
