Going FI.. preperations?
I've decided I'm probably going to go turbo/SC with my stock 94 GSR, and I was wondering what kind of stuff I'd want to get to compliment it. I think I saw somewhere that certain NA stuff won't work well with FI, like cams and whatnot. Can someone help clarify this and give me a basic rundown of what I'm looking at, both parts and money wise?

Well if you get some cams with high lift and long duration then go FI the compressed air is just going to blow by through the chambers and not really help too much. Usually stock cams or specific turbo cams are the best bet. As with all motor you want high compression which is a no no for FI. YOu want to lower your CR so you have less chances of detonation. For now you could always get some forged rods which wont hurt and will definately help when you go FI. As for the exhaust get a 3'' but not until you're boost or you'll lose tons of power.

A very good exhaust system will help out more then anything.. And also a very good clutch..
If u go SC, TypeR cams are not a bad, Since the Roots Supercharger works off of the power of your motor, my friend had a JRSC GSR w/ typeR cams, he made 230whp then we told him to put in the GSR cams in, he lost power.. ..when u have the cams properly timed you wont experience a loss of boost.. this is not true with allmotor cams, They are just WAY to high lift.. but typeR cams actually work good

Re: Going FI.. preperations? (DIRep972)
Maybe I should be more specific.. I'm looking to hit about 320 hp at the wheels with a turbo (don't know which one would be best yet). I know I'll need new pistons, rods, injectors and fuel pump. Is there anything else I'm forgetting?
Also, DIRep, what clutch would you recommend?
Thanks..

Really? Everything I've seen says you'll need new rods if you plan to go above like 9 psi or so..

The only thing that will cause the rods to pop is if the tuning is harsh enough to allow detonation. If there is detonation then the stock rods will be much more likely to break. I have yet to see proof that when stock rods break it is just because of too much boost/hp. In every case I have seen/read/heard it has been bad tuning and detonation that resulted from that which caused the breakage.

ACT, clutchnet, and clutchmasters are all good.. Im not an expert on clutches but just make sure u get a clutch that can handle the power, is streetable, and u are comfortable with the engagement..
