Default na ----> turbo

i'm currently doing an NA setup on my R, but know i will eventually want to go turbo. i just hear to many differing views on what to do and not to do, to feel confident in going turbo right now.
i was wondering if aggressive cams (spec c's) and a high redline are beneficial or even safe for a turbo. what about a higher compression ratio than stock? (11:1)
any help would be great

thanks
argiris, who is wondering how much he will have to back-peddle

hmmm i probably wouldnt raise compression to 11:1, 10.6:1 was high enough. You should make up your mind what you want to do first and then go for it.

I belive it's spelled "Pedal". anyway, I wouldnt raise compression at all, 10.6:1 is fine. the aggressive cams wont work with a turbo setup, there's to much overlap, stock cams work good with turbo.

oh man, i've spent so much time learning all i can about going all motor.
and now i'm getting obsessed with going turbo.

TurboR616: what is your redline and vtec crossover point with your turbo?
why did you decide to lower your compression?

thanks
argiris, who has to start reading the FI board now

Hes probably running a special grind.... maybe one with not so much overlap but more duratoin.. im not sure.. i know U can get turbo grind cams tho... im plaaninthe bottom end of my b18b right now... for the turbo... I was thinkin that if i put new valve springs.. retainer...etc and had maybe crower make me sum turbo friendly cams that made power at 8k..... man.. turbo with LS tranny rev to 8k.. that would be nice.. just thought.. imlookin into it..im not a guru... anyway... ive heard that like old thunderbird coupes came with T3 turbo 60 trim.. is this true and how good is this turbo..i dont know much of it..... but ive heard it can be had from ajunkyard for less that 500... that would save a lot compared to 1800 they sale for new.. anywan.. let me know puh puh please

Big cams and high compression are generally bad for turbo. Especially a street-car turbo setup.

You can do the higher redline but with out the higher compression and bigger cams it really isnt beneficial anyway. The turbo doesnt "need" the high revs to make good power. You get PLLEEENTY of power in the first 8500RPM.

if u tune it right with extreme cams and hi-comp... its the best setup... but also a can be costly...

argiris...what setup are you running?
also...start slow w/ FI so you can see what is going on. Too many changes at one time and you dont feel the gains. Also i agree a high CR setup is a strong on but a hard one to run safely. W/ dfi or something of that nature the high CR route could be done safely. Take your time

oh BTW 4d-gsr and myself are in LI too... hope to run into you some time. Also 4d-gsr is learning alot real fast so talk to him, he can be helpful. He can also help you spend crazy dollars on your ride if you let him he is getting even better at that hehehe!

Ricemustdie:
A T3-Super 60 is the largest T3 turbo you can find. It is a quick spooling turbo with a fairly nice power range.. although I would stick with the T04E/T3 hybrids that come with DRAG kits. Btw, a NEW T3-Super 60 only costs around $750, even from Turbonetics. Even if you get the BB option it is only around $1300 tops. I dont think the Thunderbirds came with BB.

Oops! I re-read your post and you were talking about a regular T3-60 trim. That is just a little smaller than a Super-60. It will just flow a little less. If you want quick spooling and big power, I would go with this: A T04E/T3 hybrid with a .48 AR exhaust and a stage II turbine.
