gaskets for manifold to turbo, wastegate, and turbo to downpipe?
After reading "Maximum Boost" I am not sure whether I should use gaskets between my manifold and turbo, and between the wastegate and turbo, and also for the downpipe. It explains that a good machined surface should do better that a gasket. Right now I plan to NOT use gaskets where the manifold meets the turbo or the wastegate and to not use a gasket on the discharge flange, but just use permatex ultra copper silicone sealant as an added security. What do you guys think? And what are you guys using?

I read the gasket between the manifold and an external wastgate is good. It helps isolate heat from the diaphragm, which is a major cause of wastegate failure.

There would be no need to use gaskets, and I wouldnt reccomend using silicone unless you are looking for a mess to clean up if you ever have to take anything apart. If you want the added security that is what a premanufactured gasket is for.
