Default Garrett .63 Vs .82 AR ?

hey guys,

im currently using Garrett t3 t67 with a .82 housing on my Daily use civic b16.

its pretty laggy until vtec kicks in which i really dont like, since it smokes pretty bad its time to get a new turbo so im getting a garrett 60-1.

QUESTION is: buy 60-1 with a .63 AR or .82 AR?

Looking for more of a street use car than drag, aiming 450 whp with a new setup

whp difference between these 2 AR's is only 25whp which really doesnt matter to me.

Please..share your opinion

That depends upon the exhaust wheel used. The standard exhaust wheel is a stage III and is rather a poor match for the 60-1 wheel, especially if you get one in the T04S .70A/R housing. If you go smaller on the housing with a better exhaust wheel, you'll find a world of difference. A/R housings are only a slight beginning of change in response characteristics. Its the matching of the compressor and exhaust wheels WITH the housings that make a bigger overall difference.

Good company. Bad combination, in either housing. For $700, you're better off with the T3/T04e 60 trim than this 60-1 combination. This version uses the Stage III wheel with the T04S I was talking about that was not optimal.

I kno wi have seen you post about the 60-1 in the "standard" combination as sold by most shops being not a good combination. Can you explain why you think this?

If you have said this 50 times already, sorry. haha

Is it too difficult to type "The turbine is too small for the compressor wheel."

It's not that complicated. The turbine wheel is too small for the compressor. As a result, you have a turbine limited turbo. The spool won't be much faster than a stage V wheel because it still has the big 60-1 wheel attached. It won't be able to make as much power because of reversion. Overall, people are not sensible enough to build turbine limited setups.

If you do want to build a turbine limited setup, your exhaust manifold needs to be bigger than normal, it may require a larger wastegate, and your exhaust needs to be larger than you typically would run. This will take care of most of the issues of being turbine limited but it still won't make as much power as a stage V wheel.

Buy a 50 trim standard t3/t04e in "standard configuration". You'll be more than pleased.

Not all 60-1 turbos are turbine limited. A lot of them come with Stage V turbine wheels. In that case, the turbo is a good turbo. It's not as good as the SC61, but it is still a good turbo. SC61 uses a Stage V T3 wheel, but has a GT40r compressor wheel. GT40r comp wheel is a great wheel.
