Default functionality of oil sensor...

So, i'm running oil to my turbo via the hole directly next to the oil filter, what is the gauge that i've taken out? what was it's exact function? what did this sensor do?

This is your oil sending unit, it relays to your Dummy light in the car when you have low oil pressure.
