Default Can I oil my turbo from an oil filter sandwich adapter??

I just got the greddy grex oil sensor attachment that goes between your oil filter and your block:

It has 3 1/8" NPT ports on it; I was originally going to use it just for my oil temp gauge, but it just occurred to me that I could stick a stainless line on there and use it as the oil feed for the turbo. Any reasons i shouldn't do this, apart from the fact that i already spent $$$ on fittings to do it the other way?

one other question, does the unfiltered oil go through the middle and the filtered oil come back through the outer portion of the oil filter? or is it vice versa?

I just got the greddy grex oil sensor attachment that goes between your oil filter and your block:
To me- which i could be wrong. It sounds like that device is only intended to have a small amount of oil flowing from it for a mechanical gauge. IF you took a larger amount of oil from that device maybe it would impead the flow back to the block or to filter... which ever way the device was designed. Just a question to be thought of also.

Looks like a great device though!! =D How much and where did you get it?

Hmm maybe, but wouldn't the effect be the same as having oil coming out of the oil pressure spot? I mean either way, you're letting more oil leave the system somewhere, right? I'll take a photo of the inside of it tonight

i got it for $108 from Alamo Motorsports: http://www.alamomotorsports.com/grd_...ckadapter.html
I believe degradated may still have his old one for sale as well if you want to save some $

not a bad idea, i might go this route myself, would the oil feed be unfiltered though? cause its going to this then the filter? btw not to make you mad but you got raped on the price, greddy lists it at $68

I don't think it would. The oil flowing to 1-3 gauges is not being consumed(or leaving the system). The adapter is only suppling a small amount of oil to pressurize a gauge(s). As were a oil feed to a turbo would be in a sense "stealing" the oil from the filter return or feed. Either that device in that scenario would be hurting the flowback to the block or the flow to the filter. Using the adapter for it's intended purpose doesn't seem like it would hurt any oil pressure that you would notice.

Yeah, but when you tap your turbo for oil from the oil pressure sensor spot, you're "stealing" the oil from somewhere else in the system, right? You're gonna lose a little bit of overall pressure regardless of where you feed the turbo...

I have been using the oil psi port on my AP Racing sandwich for 4 months w/o a problem so you shouldn't have any problems. I finally found a small filter so I no longer have clearance problems with the filter and line fittings.

I'm was looking for this a while back and everyone wanted around $120 for it. Anyone seen it for a lot less?

I got my the AP Racing oil cooler kit with the thermostat controlled block for $150 used but I think the new price is in the $700 range. I think the Omori oil filter relocator would be a better buy and adding a cooler is as simple as ordering an Earl's cooler from Summit or AN plumbing. The Omori relocator kit is about $150 and it has provisions for oil temp, oil psi and and extra 1/8npt port.

my opinion is that it looks good
I'm gonna go ahead and do this all tonight...

I do still have one unanswered question:
The oil filter etc etc have a center portion and an outer portion. Which path has the oil to the filter and which path has the oil from the filter??

Remember, The tabbed holes are 1/8 BSP thread which is different from 1/8 NPT because I have this set up.

say what?
The diagrams on the pack of the device say "NPT" for the two ports that have an allen plug in 'em. It gave some other metric designation for the 3rd port that has a normal bolt in it (M##x##)

I'm just telling you, I have tried NPT and two thread in then stuck, start to crossthread. Got some BSP fitting and whala, in all the way. Greddy is japanese parts and japanese parts are pretty much all BSP, that's their standard. Honda motors are BSP too.

The oil filter etc etc have a center portion and an outer portion. Which path has the oil to the filter and which path has the oil from the filter??

okay i found the answer!
The unfiltered oil comes in through the outside and clean oil comes back through the inside, so basically this means that if I oil my turbo from here, i'll be getting unfiltered oil.

so how bad is it to use unfiltered oil? Should i just use this adapter for my gauge sensors and then run my oil feed from the filtered oil pressure sensor spot?

1/8X1/8F3GH is the part number at marylandmetrics.

or

tell them you want a adaptor for 1/8 BSP male to 1/8 NPT female adaptor.

each is i think around $5-$5.8 something like that.
