Default finally the turbo is in...got some questions

after so many months my 99 SiR is finally boosted. i'm quiet happy with the way it's running but i got some question.

1. i almost emptied 4 liters of oil into my engine and after letting it idle for more than 6 mins, the oil level in the dipstick is quiet low and varying. sometimes the oil level is at the bottom hole then when i wipe it out and stick the dipstick in again, it just have some traces of oil when i pull it out. is there anything wrong? i checked everywhere but there's no leak.

2. the turbo is a T-28 and i think it should spool fast coz of it's small size but why is it that boost comes in at 3500rpm? at 3000 rpm the boost gauge needle is still at 10 hg in of vacuum then gradually get up when i step on it then at 3500rpm it runs strong. could it be because the turbo is using INTERNAL wastegate to regulate boost and it is openning too soon thus the late boost? or is there other problem?

please help.

by the way, here's my setup:
T-28 turbo w/ internal wastegate from a 200sx
unknown intercooler
6psi
blitz bov
8:1 fmu
missing link
msd 6A(soon to be installed)
bosch inline pump (soon to be installed)
greddy mbc (soon to be installed)

your b16 should hold about 4 liters. that should be checked with the engine off.

3k-3.5k rpm sounds about right for full boost.

wastegate wouldn't cause "late" boost. It would cause NO boost though.

for an 2000 Si, it takes 4.2 quarts with a new oil filter.

10hg/in at 3k doesnt sound right. my boost needle jumps to 0 as soon as i floor it in any rpm. and 3.5k sounds high for that turbo, there something wrong

If you just had the motor running, you have to wait a few minutes for all the oil to drain back to the pan before you check the oil level.
For your boost question, not to sound stupid but are you watching the boost gauge at WOT?

i didn't floored the accelarator yet, i was gradually stepping on it and increasing the rpm gradually while quickly glancing at the boostgauge. and what i saw is 10hg/in at 3k. is that bad? but if i blip the throttle while in neutral it goes to zero.

also, at idling it reads 20hg/in when i give it a little gas the needle moves to less than 20hg/in to a certain hg/in but when i hold it at a certain rpm, lets say 2k rpm the needles falls slowly. is that normal? or should the needle be steady at a particular hg/in while the gas is maintain at a steady rpm?

is there any problem with my setup? what could it be? help me out please.

You need to be at WOT if you want to see your turbo spool up the fastest.

how should vacuum behave on a boosted car? i'm kinda new to turbocharging and this is my first time to drive one. so i'm kinda confused how a boosted car should behave and how should it behave when driving it. so if there's any problem with my setup and the ways it is behaving then please help me out coz the problems i listed might be normal or might not and i don't know like vacuum reading, late spooling and etc.

lets have this example:

let's say when you step on the gas slightly to bring the rpm to 2k then at 2k rpm the reading(for example) is 10hg/in of vacuum. what happens when you hold it at 2k rpm, should vacuum be steady at 10hg/in also or should it fluctuate?

thanks.

All depends on load... Just because you are holding the throttle/rpms steady doesn't mean that the load is constant..

At idle, I would expect around -22 to -20 hg. When you rev it, it will go up..
I guess a way to think about it is that your load goes up depending on how fast
you are trying to accelerate. Load is proportional to acceleration.

If you are using your engine to deccelerate, then I would expect the gauge
to read lower than your idle.. If you're coasting, you should have the same
reading as idle.
