First off I got a 99 civic si and my friend and I recently installed a greddy kit on it. No leaks whatsoever and was running perfectly fine for one day, but now when I accelerate it sounds like an old truck. Don't know how else to describe the sound, but I'm thinking the exhaust manifold is leaking? Would it cause that loud annoying sound? Going to try it tomorrow, but just checking if anyone else has maybe had this problem or has some tips in case that's not it. Thanks.

i always had that...the bolts on my downpipe were always getting loose...or the bolts from my manifold to my turbo... so check that first

Loctite won't do anything for threads loosening in areas with heat. Heat is what is used to remove loctite. If you don't know the answer to a question,...

If the bolts/nuts are loosening and causing the exhaust/DP?cat toleak, you can retighten the loose hardware and if that makes the tractor noise go away, then you've found the problem. Use flangedd nuts or double-nut to prevent it from happening again. Or if you are on the cheap, German specs the mophou!

Worst case scenario, boost has killed your engine. What fuel compensation for the extra boost? Timing? Condition/ mileage on the eng. before the install?

if it is the turbo bolts getting loose the only way to fix that is getting a studkit for the manifold, no matter how many lockwashers you use they're always gonna get loose from vibrations.

mine fell off once then i put on the lockwashers and never had a problem again.

stock boost 6psi, using greddy blue box (air/fuel reads good), engine has 46k miles and had a good compression across the 4 cylinders.

Tractor sound is a good way to describe it .

i put 3' on my lude it sounds way different than a truck but then its f--kin loud
louder than when it was na with 2 1/4 exhaust.

The bolts between your turbo and manifold are loose and are causing a leak.

You need to tighten the **** out of those, and use loctite red when they're cold.

Also, if you need a new gasket between your turbo and mani, pick up a stock gasket from a 90-96 300ZX TT. Direct fit, I have one on mine.

mine started to sound like a tractor.i posted it a few months ago but never got any answers...because no one knows...anyway,when it was doing the tractor sound,i decided to sell my turbo stuff and took everything off.then i decided to keep it and put it all back on again.from when i put it back on it never happened again.

doesnt really give you an answer to your question but im assuming something is loose.like some of the guys said,i think its your manifold to turbo

are u still getting boost still? Cause the slightest leak between ur manifold to turbo will cause this tractor sound and lose lots of boost cause it happened to my coupe this summer. i blew the weak *** gasket between. Replace it with a new gasket and also check ur downpipe.

I re-read your 1st post again. "When you accelerate" it sounds like an old truck! When you step on the happypedal, the engine move around in the mounts and pulls against the exhaust system (axles, wiring harness, etc.. but not related to the topic) So a leak at WOT to partial throttle might not show up at idle.

Git her up on jackstands or a lift and have someone plug the exhaust tip. You'll feel the leak and hear it with the engine idling. You may have to rev the engine to find it. Good luck and stay off the Loctite

Locktite is not the Universal CURE to every leak problem! Read again yo! Heat loosens up Loctite!

copudl be a loose/leaking charge pipe. mine sounded liek a dump truck when the charge pipe came of the TB

You must be on crack, the blue box sucks!!! Wait till you get some random CEL's .. not in any order 13 (Baro Sensor), 1 (Primary O2), 41, 42, 43, 43 (I think those are for random missfires).

Do yourself and get hondata, from one ex Greddy 18G user to another. And I had the kit on with 23k miles on my car so I know what Im talking about

I didn't say the bluebox was good, all I said was that my air/fuel ratio are reading good... I would get hondata, but like most other people, money is holding me back.

dude do u think the blue box is for show? Umm the blue box is greddys joke of fuel control for the RC 310cc's.

How are you monitoring your A/F's, is it with a wide band or with that Autometer POS gauge ?? - Its nothing less than a light show.

On my dyno the highest I saw was 10.9-11.0 A/F, I mean its safe, but i guess that's why I burned out my primary O2 sensor.

Not that I'm yelling but if you think 10.9-11.0 A/F is good you have alot to learn. The blue box is ****, i doesn't even retard any timing. Rip that thing out and drive over it a couple of times.

Did you install 1 or 2 step colder plugs like the instructions said?

FYI my #'s where 176 hp and 139.5 tq .. this with my stock exhaust and stock cat. So this gives you an idea of the power your making @ 5.5 psi.

Tighten those bolts on the exhaust manifold and downpipe, I had the same problem on my Greddy kit when i first installed it, the manifold bolts had work there way loose..
When you do tighten them make sure you go from the pattern inside to out. I think the Helms manual shows how.

I agree! i thought most people new this. Loctite wont work especially on an exhaust manifold. Like laser said, HEAT will render loctite useless!!

Stud your manifold and use lock nuts, that will solve that problem and then look into uberdata since money is an issue since the program itself is free.

i had that problem on my sohc greddy kit. i put that copper high temp goo around all the bolts. It held for the rest of the summer!
