Default Filterless Cold Side

Anyone running a steel mesh net with a plain old coupler on the cold side?
Have you had anyone problems? pros and cons?

Might want to be careful also, after awhile sometimes the mesh might suck in a little and hit the fins. I destroyed my turbo like that.

Funny story about that, my buddy's 35R distorted the hell out of the filter, but did nothing to the screen.

The worst I ever experienced was damn dirty oil.

This has been covered a million times. Mesh screens suck. They don't do much for filtration, and they greatly impede the airflow by reducing the surface area of the opening. Try ordering something out of the K&N catalog. All I could fit was a 4" diameter x 3" tall filter, but even that has the surface area advantage.

The compressor inlet is 4", which is 12.5 sq in of flat surface area (πr^2). The 3" tall filter has 3x the surface area, ~38 sq in (2πrh). With the mesh filter, you're actually reducing the area by at least 20%.

The looks are deceiving. The math tells the real story.
