A/F gauge install question
My A/F gauge has 3 wires coming out of it. I have to red hooked to a 12V supply, the black to ground, and the grey to the O2 sensor line on the wiring harness by the computer. the lights on the gauge light up all the way to rich, but nothing happens. It's all the way up when the engine isn't running. Is the O2 sensor line not 0-1volt? And if not, how do I convert?

Yeah I got it working, but it is totally inaccurate. When I am flooring the car, it shows the car running a little rich where it should be, then when I downshift all the lights go out and it reads dead lean, sometimes it does that when I idle. It is really inaccurate.

Re: (soundman)
Yup, simple setups like autometer with stock 02 sensors are very inaccurate. People buy them thinking they can use it as a tuning tool, but thats the last thing its good for. If you want a really accurate setup get a wideband sensor with a higher quality gauge... just as a side note, i'm running an autometer a/f gauge in my car right now and it IS somewhat helpful at times, but I definantly dont rely soley on it, simply because, as you stated, it is pretty inaccurate.

yeah the narrow band meters only work when you're at wide open throttle. as a side note, when you down shift and are off the gas, it should read way lean.

Yeah, so I guess my A/F gauge is more of a light show than anything huh? That sucks...
I figured out which one to hook it up to, so it's working, just useless....

yep, it may also have a loose connection. Did you solder the wire?
I know i had problems when i first installed my gauge, as soon as i solderd the wire the problems went away.
Any gauge hooked up to your stock o2 (narrow band) is only going to be accurate when your air/fuel ratio is close to stoich, as it gets further away from stoich it is less accurate.

Re: A/F gauge install question (soundman)
ive heard the autometers are in accurate but that doesn't explain y mine will light all the lights across the board or have lightened trails, like the brightest bulbs will move like normal but as they move the keep a slightly dimmer tail. all the connections are good, is the guage just dieing?

i think i get it............the gauge goes from lean to rich or left to right. The last led that it stops at on the right is the reading , then it does it again. sorry hard to explain

Well for a fraction of the cost of a Wideband sensor, using an Autometer or other A/F gauge as a safty device isnt a bad idea. You get a fairly accurate reading at WOT which will tell you if youre lean or not. Not as good as a wideband but worth the price if you cant afford a wideband.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. I think I'll just have to go to a dyno ater I put my turbo on to tune that baby out. Then the wideband will just be a safe gaurd to make sure my fuel didn't go crazy or anything.
