Re: (D15B7turbo)
yours are fine untill they snap and then your paying out the *** to get them out? From wht i here is that they get stretched. just pay the 100 bucks then you wont have to worry about it anymore...

False, headbolts don't snap from being reused, they stop holding there torque. However, mine seem to be holding fine after 3 re-torques and 10 psi, go figure.

never ending de-bate, but if you use them three times with 10lbs and your fine good luck on the fourth time. the bolts stretch like they are intended to and over time, taking them off and retourqing just adds. maybe not much but enough to be concerned with for peice of mind imo..
and before the flaming starts not insulting and im not calling you a liar just personal expriance

I reused them twice so far no problem running 14+ psi. You can measure the bolt to see if it has stretched too much.

the studs can be re-used.
the stock Bolts will stretch more, that's why they say not to re-use them.
And if you over torque the apr's and stretch them, then they also have to be re-used. This is reguarding d series more than b series, because the b's are thicker and can handle more toqrue. . .

how can u measure them to see if they stretched? i really don't want to be cheap but i also don't have money to buy new bolts everytime i take my head off.
when i took them off, they look normal. i'm gonna go for my fourth re-use stage....think i'll be fine?
and if they do break or leak, what's the worst that could happen? just coolant in the cylinder?

Well arp's are hardned, ground and pre stretched alloy.
Honda even recomends head bolts be replaced every time they are un done.

With the head studs, once you go above 65 ft-lbs you are going beyond the yield strength of the stud. This means that any ductile stretch that the stud had, i.e stretching and returning to normal length, is gone. You have went above the ductile point, and entered permanent deformation region. You get higher clamping force with the higher torque/longer stretch on the stud, but the price you pay is that you cannot reuse the headstuds again..</TD></TR></TABLE>

are these head bolts or studs? i'm getting confused now.
i want the ones with the bolts on top like OEM. with ARP, you're suppose to put them on yourself?

The factory service manual says to replace them every time your take the head off. But they also say that about almost half of the suspension bolts used, and so on. My personal belief as a habiltual head bolt re-user is that this is mostly for the purpose of driving up the cost of factory service jobs. (e.g. taking your car to honda for repairs)
But head bolts do stretch over time. I wouldn't re-use 200k+ headbolts. But if they have been re-used and have less than 50k on them, sure.
