Default Exhaust Cutouts worth it?

I'm looking at the Quick Time Electric Cutout for my turbo setup and am wondering
how well it will work comming off a 3" downpipe that is reduced to a 2.5" exhaust.

Obviously it will put in before the reducer in a "y" pipe but how much will it actually help with air flow??

Will my car be loud as **** when the butterfly valve is closed? I am trying to retain somewhat of a stealth approach.

How many of you out there have had experience with these cutouts?

(did a search but no conclusive info was found...)

All comments are appreciated.

Just get a real exhaust.

Tha way, you have flow and power all the time, rather than being slow half the time and sounding like crap the other half.

I'm interested in some definate info too. I'd love to run a really quiet exhaust to keep cops off my back and then at the push of the button be able to run off the downpipe.

I agree with you buddy, to be able to have power at the flick of the switch
would be ideal. For daily driving and cruising around the city a nice quiet
exhaust system would suit me fine.

Anybody know of someone with the system in place at the moment?

You have to tune for the cutout. So really you wouldn't have the option of booting it with the cutout closed - you'd run richer AFAIK.

I'm the friend with the cutout. Honestly, its the coolest thing in the world to have. For my normal daily driving I will typically keep it closed. Yummy, nice and quiet on the highway. THen, when I want to scare someone, I open it up and let her rip. I guess its pretty loud. I got on it in a tunnel one day coming home from work with my windows down. Bad idea, I couldn't hear the radio for a few minutes.

Then when i'm not in the mood to have a loud car, I just close it. I have my butterfly valve seating area coated with RTV to provide an airtight seal. Quiet as stock and for half the price of an aftermarket catback with much better performance (on a turbo car).

Same idea as going from a very restrictive stock part to an upgraded aftermarket part. You flow more, you make more hp, you need more fuel to support it.

Thats the nice thing about mass airflow cars. WHen my eclipse takes in more air, it has to go through the MAF. In doing so, the ecu counts it and adds the correct amount of fuel. IN a speed density car like a honda a MAP pressure value is looked up in a table and the air is then calculated. If your boost stays the same, but the motor moves more air (such as when a cutout is opened) the ECU is not able to correct for it. So, it would be like squeezing nitrous and not adding fuel.

So yes, a speed density car needs tuned for the cutout, and will run richer when it is closed. Its really not a big deal. You shouldn't need to boost hard just to get to work. But if you want to have fun, its only 5 seconds away.

I would have to agree with you danl, I've been told that with a cutout you need to tune your car at the cutout and then run rich while it is closed.
Which cutout do you have danl? I have been looking at the Quick Time Electric
Cutout and am seriously considering it for the same reasons you did.

Cutouts + Boost OWNS!

I'm running the 2.5" unit with the flange they provide. I have a 2.5" downpipe, so it was a natural choice.

im definately using an E-cutout..

That way i can keep the QUIETNESS of a stock exhaust, and have the performance of a drag 3" when i need it!

and wont have to worry about being emissions legal since i can keep a cat...
