Default engine for a newb

Hi I am new to these forums, I got interested in import tuning after a ride in my friends civic. I don’t know much about automotive mechanics but I have made it a goal to learn as much as possible. By the end of the year I hope to have enough money, knowedge, and experience to start my own turbo Honda build. I have been trying to soak up as much information as I can (I have been trying to read every thread for the past few weeks)

So here are my questions, I realize that some have been asked before but I would appreciate it if you guys can answer them again.

I want to build a streetable race car with about 425-450hp. One thing I can’t figure out is what engine I should go with. I want to know what the most cost and performance effective engine I should look into.

1. Is a LS/Vtec Viable?
2. Should I worry about reving past 8000rpm?
3. Can something be done to build up the bottom end?
4. Should I boost a h22a, and can I sleeve so it can handle more boost?
5. Is a gsr a good motor to boost?
6. Is a k24a2 better? And would it have the rev limits as the ls/vtec?
7. Can I buy the k20a2 head without buying a block to save money?
8. Should I consider a B18C5?

Id go with the GSR get some Forged pistons and rods and some ARP headbolts and boost it.Most cost effective.Lsvtec is a great choice but I wouldnt recommend it as your first boosted car. GSR 1# lsvtec#2 Still be prepared to shell out $6000 to $8000 for your motor and turbo setup.More money if you want to do it right Hondata or uberdata and a wideband, laptop. And more money if you pay a shop to do the work. PS DO NOT BUY ANY SSAUTOCHROME PARTS NO MATTER WHAT! BIGGEST MISTAKE NEW PEOPLE MAKE!

I am not worried about the difficulty of building and maintaining a lsvtec, I would just wan to know what’s the best option out of all of them. If i do go with a lsvtec should i be worried about running it at high rpms? And if yes what can I do to fix any of those problems. BTW I am planning on saving about 10-13000 on this build, i just want to get the most bang for my buck.
