Ive read a few post and havent really gotten a straight answer. But i just want to know how long my engine will last with a 6psi setup. Im planning to get a dual manual boost controller to lowwer or raise the boost when im commuting. I drive about 40 miles a day more or less. Im just trying to figure out the reality of what to expect. But at the same time tryin to have with my car. A have a 98 gsr with about 87k miles....most of it from commuting. any feedback would greatly help me out.
I know turbo is not the best reliability wise but poo poo what to do what to do????

i got 129,000+ on my LS and i commute to the east bay from vallejo every other day. i boost around 5lbs daily.
honestly, no one can tell you how long your engine will last. you can only make sure that you dont go to hard on your engine. if you were to baby your motor and make sure you dont punch it too hard... it could last a long time. if you were to baby it once in a while and then hit the gas racing every single lowered car around like the way i do... then its obvious that your motor will start to wear down pretty fast. just get the turbo and take care of your car. you should be happy with it for a few years before you start to notice loss of power and wear and tear on your motor.

Dustin, I figured if i had a boost controller, i would be able to turn down my boost to the lowwest setting for daily driving or commuting. Could u sugest anything? i mean i guess it will really depend on how heavy my foot is.
dlplayboy, you are right. AS the time being, i know slapping a turbo on my car wont make it more reliable but, i guess im just trying to set goals to maximize my engine life. Commuting sucks but i have to do it....and at the same time i want to enjoy turbo like the rest of you guys...

There is no correct answer to your question. Its like saying "How many times can I jump off my roof without breaking my leg?" There are just too many factors at play.

ok i know my questions come around alot but let me refrase it: Once i get my turbo on my car, what problems should i expect to happen running 6lbs of boost?
What gives out first? Pistons Rings Cylider wall etc...

My biggest problem will be wanting to get more than 6 psi out of my setup, can you see how that could be a problem? speed = $$$
I could not imagine a motor failing at 6psi with proper fueling, a rev limiter and if you are an intelligent driver. For example, You cant race every car with stickers or badges. You also cant powershift 1-2 gear at 8000 rpm every stop light.
If you do not follow that example, I COULD see how every or any part of your car will fail.

the first thing to usually go in our cars would be he piston ring lands. the crack fairly easily. but, in your case, at only 6 psi, with proper fuel management, etc...i woul'd forsee that being a problem at all. the problem happens when 6 psi isn't enough...and you try a little more...and a little more...and a litte...OOOPS!!! I JUST CRACKED MY RING LANDS!!!! (me)
