eletronic boost controlers
whats everyone running ? any good ones in the 250-300 range? i seen hdi has one but its doesn't have a sensitivity setting to keep boost steady and not drop off or spike like the GFB does. any insight would be appreciated

You need to go here, and look at the possibilities and options. Many here like to try and use their Engine Management to help be their interface, while others like myself, use independent boost control from Sources like GReddy, HKS, Turbosmart e-Boost, and World Electronics.
I have no idea what HDI is GFB, but again, if you look at this link below and ask specific questions there over creating a thread, you'd be better off.

Re: eletronic boost controlers
The shodan the link isnt working. i was looking at some greddys but they dont allow for boost ramp like the GFB the GFB is made in Australia and they have a great demo that goes over how there whole controller works and its comes in at a 270 price tag as to some 4-500 greddys and turbo smarts. i like the turbo smart as it fits where to boost gauge would but at that price i mite as well ditch my crome ecu and go hondata.

Re: eletronic boost controlers
How would "boost by gear" work on a vehicle with an analog VSS? I'm curious to how gearing is 'recognized' or detected reliably. Maybe I need to do some more research, but of all the talk I've really seen on it, no one can describe the theory- only observations. Any explanations would be appreciated.

Well it would depend in your setup. If you're talking about your '91, then I think the VSS is in the cluster, but depending on what ECU you're using, you should be able to find a source for the VSS. Besides, VTEC needs the speed to activate (unless you're bypassing that), so there's bound to be a source you can use.

I think his car has a legit cable that spins for the odometer

Re: eletronic boost controlers
There is a wire that runs to the ecu from the cluster which would be you vss input for the ecu.. the speedometer is cable driven but there is a wire that runs to the ecu on obd0 vehicles.. it should be number b16 at the ecu yellow with red stripe if I remember correctly..

Re: eletronic boost controlers
From what ive been reading last couple weeks it really depends on your setup...manifold design, type of boot solenoid your using etc. As long as your controller is doing its job properly your fine, Generally 2x on a 3 port and 3x on a 4 port. Some have reported 4x on the 4 ports(that would be 28 psi if your using a 7psi spring) but different people get different results so you just need to watch your boost carefully and make sure your not overboosting.
Im attempting this soon...I went with a 5.8 psi spring I think it was.... basically I want very little boost in first gear and by 4th I want 15-20 PSI but havent got quite that far in my build just yet
