Default E85 vs pump gas quick question

Is it worth it power/ safety wise to run e85 over 91 pump or no? Just curious cause there is an e85 pump a few miles from my house but would suck to run out of fuel somewhere far away. Thanks in advance

It has a better ability to resist knock and allow more timing which with allow for higher boost pressure, thereby creating more power. There are some caveats, as you need larger injectors, different fuel pump and retune for that fuel, and add long as you don't store the car with this fuel, or leery it sit to allow corrosion, you'll be fine

The aem ems now has a flex fuel option. Add in a gm sensor on your return line tune the ems for both 91 and e85 and the ecu blends the tunes based on e85 content.

This means if you have a 1/4 tank left of e85 and not near a station you just fill up with 91 and the ecu does the rest.

I didn't know. I still prefer the aem over s300 anyway.

ive noticed the feature with the s300 but do you need the same sensor(s)?

How does the s300 handle the flex fuel option, I mean is it worthwhile? I mean what's the point of running e85 with adjusting timing to suit?

the point of having the flex fuel option, is if your stuck some where were e85 isnt available you can at least put regular pump gas in the vehicle to make it home. im almost sure you have to be tuned for both e85 and pump gas in order for the ecu to determine the adjustment in timing. personally, if i had this setup i wouldnt run my car at the track with a mixed tank. mainly because i personally dont know how itll perform.

You need a flex fuel sensor off a gm vehicle. I forgot the pt# number but its only like a hundred bucks.

I took a look at the s300 features and it seems really basic and I wouldn't trust it. unless theres something im not seeing.

Heres a couple pics of the s300 and aem.

That first pic is the only thing I found in the s300 program for the flex option.

The others is everything for the aem.

The Hondata option is nowhere near the AEM obviously, I was just pointing out the S300 has the ability to do what the OP was asking about. (The part of being far away from a pump and having to HAVE to use pump gas.) Boosting wouldn't be an option due to the different timing values each fuel can sustain unless of course the E85 was detuned but that would defeat the purpose.

If he has a walbro 255 he doesn't need a different fuel pump tho. Never had an issue with the 255's.

You made it seem as if the two programs can be compared and its no where near it.

When the car is stored with that fuel in the 255, problems have been well-documented and known to occur. for one that uses it "on the regular", correct, no issues in their use.

Stored for how long?

My car sat for 9 months with E85 in the tank. No issues on the twin 255's.

Again, never seen any issues with them in all the Evo's and we have been using E85 since 2007.

Lines, injectors, etc. Pump had issues activating. typically over 5 months, without it being flushed.

Ive seen injector issues, but mostly when the injectors are pulled out and stored without cleaning them first. But when a car sits and has fuel in the rail i havent seen a problem yet.

Fuel pumps, deff not an issue tho.
