Default Dustin: Making your downpipe...

Can you post those pix when you made your dp from a bunch of pre made mandrel bent pipes? Going to try and do this and see how it turns out.

For the flange that connects to the turbo did you just cut off the one from the stock dp and use that? Also from the looks of it, it doesnt seem that I can make a closed loop dp w/ the ac still intack.

I cut the flange off my Arturbo downpipe, but http://www.roadraceengineering.com sells brand new ones. You can also order them from turbonetics.

I painted it myself. I used some silver high temp paint from lowes. It is not peeling or anything.

Man, I just have to comment on your welding. I am sure you already know but that is some clean welding. It looks like you can basically weld your own turbo manifold if you got the right part. Is it really that hard to learn with a Tig welder? I got a Lincoln mig welding and for the past 3 years I can't even come 1/2 as close as that? Makes me wanna throw my lincoln in the trash can.

Welding exhaust pipe with MIG is a horrible pain in the ***. I did my downpipe but it's ugly as hell. Works though... I've only spotted one pinhole leak.

I agree with Karmannghia, that is some damn nice welding. I also have a MIG, but I have only the 120V model and it really doesn't have the juice for good exhuast welding. I cna make some nice welds with no leaks, but what you got just rocks.

Please post your welding setup and approximate cost.

What do you use to cut the pipe? Cut-off saw or band-saw?

Randy
