Default dsm bov's

i heard that some honda people who go boost use dsm (1st gen talon, eclipse, laser) bov's. that they can handle much power and up to 21 psi. and that many of the crazy built dsm boosted motors are still runnin the stock bov, including the worlds fastest awd or whatever (forgot the name)

what do u guys think.....i was looking into it because its very affordable

I think John Shepards TSI is the fastest AWD talon right now still? If so, he is definantly not using the stock 1G DSM BOV, he's running a 50mm TIAL. The 1G bov works great and is affordable. If you want to run big boost, remember to crush the top hat of the bov or else it will leak.

I know bov's can save some undue stress on your system, but aren't they more of a gimmick than a necessity anyway?

It's hard on the ole turbo to get the ... door slammed on it (so to speak).

FYI there are much better ways to make a 1g BOV hold high boost than "crushing". Look up "Gus mod" on google... err here I'll do it for you:

I had a 1g BOV on my first H22 Turbo, and I loved it. All of the DSM guys are like " damn, what BOV is that?", I'm like, prolly the one you threw in the trash when you put that ricer BOV on lol. BTW i ran 8psi with an SC44 and it sounded great, and no comp surge.

Without a blow off valve, you will get mass compressor surge which will lead to very very premature turbo failure. There's a reason why stock turbo cars all come with blow off valves or relief valves

Don't get me wrong, I bought a dsm bov several months ago, and I've had it on my turbo setup from the very beginning. I was asking my tuner if I should try to adjust it, since it was blowing not only coming out of boost, but also when I was lifting from around -2 to -3 psi. He told me he thought they were more of a gimmick than a necessity. Honestly when I heard that, the first thing I thought about was the fact that apparently mitsu thought they were worth putting on their turbo cars.

if you dont like the look of it, place it on either the pipe right before or after the intercooler in the bumper. no one will ever see it.

I have a 1gen DSM BOV, picked it up for less than $10. Works great! Can't go wrong for that price. It performs way better than any other BOV in it's price range and better than many more expensive BOVs.

Just a little DIY: Here is how to modify the BOV to make it withstand higher pressures.
