Default Drive without fuel managment???

Hey I got a question.

Let me explain my situation first. I'm in the process of getting all my turbo parts together and installing them on my integra, w/ some help of course. I'm getting Hondata to run everything and 440 injectors. I want to do the install mysef, but I will need a shop to put in the hondata and tune it. So here is the question...Can I install everything except the injectors and then drive it without any fuel managment?

Can you make the wastegate stick open so I wont have any boost? Will this work or do I need to install everything and then tow my car to the shop? I'd really hate to do that cause the shop I am going to is about 3 1/2 hours away. Also I'm not gonna pay a shop to install everything, not when I can do it.

Well what do you think??

As long as you dont boost you should be fine.

Again, you should be fine if the turbo isn't doing anything. You might want to consider installing the hondata yourself, then going to the ship and having them tune it. I just installed RC 440 injectors and a Hondata 4b on my integra this weekend and everything went painlessly. Your only concern might be soldering the new components onto the ECU. If you can't do it yourself, I'm sure you can find someone locally who can. It is definately not worth $50 to send it to a hondata dealer.

Let me know if you have any questions about installing a hondata, as everything is still fresh in my mind.

You didnt mention anything about what you're using for Fuel delivery, pump, etc???

As long as you stay OUT of boost you'd be okay, but driving for 3 + hours that could be tricky, especially if you have to go up any grades for prolonged length of time, but then you could just downshift and slow down.

Do you have a boost gauge so you can read vacuum to boost crossover point? THat would be helpful

You can probably drive boost-less without the wastegate spring in place, but I don't recommend it.

Just dont mash the gas and you'll be fine and keep the rpms below 3k.

I will have a boost guage along with A/F, Oil Pressure and EGT guages.

For fuel delivery I am using Hondata and 440 injectors.

I took a class recently on how to solder so that is not a problem. I just need some instructions.

I'm purchasing the hondata 2b so I wont be able to program anything. Do you still recommend that I just go ahead and buy the hondata and put it in myself? Will it come with fuel maps and everything already programmed in? If that is possible, I would love to do it. Then drive my car, slap that sucka on a dyno, and get to tuning

One more thing why wouldnt you recommend me leaving the screw out of the wastegate?

Thanks for the help so far everyone

Damn, you got some silly answers. Just don't bolt on the piping. Woila, no boost.

On another note, Hondata 2b comes with a very good stock base boost map. No reason not to install it.

GREAT! I love this board. I guess that would make sense to disconnect one of the pipes... I will definetly go ahead and buy the hondata and install it if it is safe. That will make things so much easier. Sweet I am all excited now.

Unless you have to go up that hill into Eldorado Hills.

The hondata system comes with all of the instructions on soldering the parts on, and it does come with all the parts. You basically have to solder on a 28 pin socket for the EEPROM, a small chip (maybe 12 pins), and several resistors and capicators. Since you won't be able to program it yourself, make sure the EEPROM the dealer sends is programmed correctly for your car (i.e. it has a turbo).

Please don't follow this advice. If you do you will be seriously sorry because your turbo will require a rebuild. My friend found this out the hard way when he decided to run his car without the piping attached. Doing this will overspeed the turbo and ruin the bearings/seals.

Agreed - with no pressure building against the compressor it will run much faster than intended and even if it doesn't destroy the turbo it will greatly accelerate wear on the bearings and seals.

Here's a thought - Why not get the Hondata installed first; THEN put your turbo on?

The hondata and 440s will be FINE with no turbo - should drive virtually identical to stock. Then put the turbo on at your leisure; the hondata will be just WAITING for the boost to hit and you'll have a blast.
