Default drag kit vs. custom

wassup guys, i did a search on the drag kit the past few days and i've seen some good comments about it.

now my question is, for a first time turbo set up, would i be better off with a drag kit or build up my own custom set up. i've been talking to a few friends and pretty much 1/2 said drag kit, 1/2 said custom. i was wondering what the pro's and con's of having each would be. i wanted to go custom to get more power out of it (hoping for 300whp +) but i was told i could be close with the drag kit on my b18b.

also i have 135k on my b18b, any advice if i should boost this motor or just buy a new short block. please give me some advice on this topic.

thanks, john

drag kits suck, do a custom kit....you can have all the parts "YOU" want instead of settling for what the "KIT" comes with

true, but then again this is my first turbo set up, the drag is guaranteed to work, the custom is iffy to someone who's doing their first set up

Get a pre-fab kit for your first try. I tryed building a kit the first time around, and it was much too tough for me with limited turbo expereince.

I wanted a drag kit for a long time. I have now decided to go with a custom setup. The first reason being the drag manifold isn't the best, and needs to be replaced. Second the deltagate isnt the best either, and needs to be replaced. Many offer the Tial as an upgrade for that reason. Third, the FMU isn' t the best. The plumbing is pretty but if you want "pretty" get a bug.

First priority would be that motor...if everything seems mechanicly sound then **** it. But i would risk boostin on a 185k or whatever motor.

Spark Racing will be your best bet on a Prefab Kit, The stuff the include is awesome, and pretty much what your gonna WANT in a custom kit.

The manifold design is bad ***, turbo is sufficient size, Tial 38mm wastegate, cant go wrong with that, Big intercooler (always cool) and all the fuel **** your gonna need, I believe they said they made 316hp on 8.7psi on a stock GSR with Hondata.
If you wanna make 300 hp on a stock motor Hondata will be necesary i think.
Kit retails for like 2700$ i believe

Search on here for Spark racing and take a look

i hope you are talking about the drag 3 kit , when you just say the drag kit people will think that you are talking about the kit that doesnt include the IC. i just got the drag 3 kit for my first turbo, i cant tell you anything about it though. not in my car yet.

Whats wrong with the DRAG Kit. Hundreds of people the past 8 years have been using the DRAG kit. and putting out good numbers on them. I have personally have seen many many 12 sec setups on just the Basic Drag kit.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">stock B18C i made 260whp at 6psi with 310's, vafc, 12:1 fmu, and a 255 hp FP. with a drag kit.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Are these numbers not good? what are you expecting at 6psi. these are great results.

For the novice Turbo person... I'd think about doing a kit like DRAG or REV HARD. if you are comfortable with doign your own kit, thats fine too.. but research first if you arent familiar with turbo systems that much.

I agree that the DRAG kits isnt the ALL out Turbo kit. I would change the Wastegate myself.

Just curious. What are your personal expereinces that you dont like it so much.
Can you explain? thanks.
