Default Downpipe Fabricating Problems

I brought my car to the shop to get a Downpipe fabbed up for it. These are the headers that I have and I was told they are AC compatible with a 2.5" downpipe.

I got a call from the shop saying that it is too tight of a fit to be effective. He told me that clearance between the exhaust housing and the AC Compressor is 2.75". The 5-bolt flange is a quarter-inch itself and doing the math that leaves no room for any bend. I told him I'll give him a call in the morning and this is where I am banking on my HT buddies for help.

This is what I thought about so far...

1. Turn the turbo around. But this means I won't be running an air filter.
2. Tell the shop to snuggle it in. But this means it may not be effecient at all. This is a picture of what I think it might look like with similiar headers maybe even worse!

Any other ideas? I need to make a decision tomorrow.

turn it around and worry about the filter later, charge piping will be easier that way too.

he said he wantred to keep AC, well ive seen the manifold myself and i think its almost impossible, but synik on here build one 2.5 ac compatible so i guess it is, esp if you have a 5 bolt housing.

Come to think of it would a t4 compressor housing even clear the AC compressor?

You wont be able to fit the turbo the opposite way and retain A/C
Only thing that you could do is cheat the pipe like in the picture, Its not very effiecient but you gotta do what you gotta do......

Does anyone have other pictures of downpipes and their angle needed in clearing the ac housing?

no way does my manifold give me that much room.
So you guys think i should just give it a real acute angle?
Or suck it up and lose the AC? I live in NJ and you need the AC all year around.

no AC and put the compressor on the drivers side . Best setup for several reasons; better DP flow because there are no 'cheater' cuts and there are fewer degrees of direction change. Also the oil return line is not forced to cross the DP and charge pipe. Much cleaner and you can put a filter right on the inlet if you want. You don't NEED the AC but i'm sure it's nice. Just boost everywhere and the wind will cool you off

I had the same problem with the same manifold and I just fabricated my own downpipe and ported it really well and it works great. Give me your email and I will send you some pics.
