Don't tap oil pan?!
Apparently some people do custom turbo set-ups without tapping the pan...you use an oilfilter relocation kit and make all the oil go through the turbo before it goes through the filter...I'm thinkin two problems.
1. The oil is not getting properly filtered because the flow through the turbo is small compared to the needs of the entire engine.
2. The oil coming out of the turbo isn't leaving fast enough (assuming the filter return is higher than the turb) to cool it properly.
HOWEVER, one honda has apparently had this set up for about 50k miles, and another for over a year with no problems...is common knowledge(Maximum Boost, hehe) wrong/ overly cautions?

Re: Don't tap oil pan?! (ion_four)
So, I guess I didn't ask too much of a question, hehe,...
Has anyone done this or know if it works? After thinking about it, I'm rather unsure, but it seems to have been tried and true, or so I understand...has any one ever taken to return line off their pan while the engine/turbo was running to see the volume and pressure of oil coming out?

For your drain, it has to be a drop from the turbo to the drain point (i.e. oil pan). If the line goes uphill at all it will not work, etc.

Umm, the turbo barely flows any oil. I can't imagine that anyone would run ALL engine oil through the turbo and have their motor last for more than about 5 minutes.
Note that this would work great if you never started the car.

Haha, yeah, if you never start the car then you can save a lot of money by not running oil lines!!
I don't know if your post was actually in response to mine, but...I just stated that the turbo oil drain needs to be a drop and have no "resistance" since there is no pressure in the drain.
Oh now IC what he is asking...just tap to the pan man, I can't see how you could make it work right with a filter relo kit.

Re: Don't tap oil pan?! (dustin)
Lost track of the thread...here are the words right from this guy's mouth (keyboard):
"I forgot to adress the first part of you question of how many miles. on the
mustang it wasn't a daily driver it was only a weekend type of car. the
other honda was a daily driver. They guy puts over 500 miles a week on his
car just driving to work. and he has had his car turboed for over two years
so he has probually put over 50,000 miles on his car since he turboed it. my
car i only put like 6 thousand miles on it turboed."
So, it seems that this does work...I don't see why he'd lie about it if it wasn't true, because it is contrary to what most people think. Any takers?
