My friend sent it to me and I figured you guys would get a kick out of it or know what the was reason for having it setup like that.

actually it wouldnt....think of it as a V8 or even v6 and spooling it would be a lil laggy but those cars dump alot exhaust fumes and can spool that turbo very easily...i think if it works good its a great idea...think of ur jdm type r header going to a t3/t4 tucked up somewhere and having the charge pipes end with a aem intake...a all motor looking car pushing 300whp lol....

I think that's kinda cool actually!
If you guy's think it's stupid to mount the turbo there, just look at the design of a porsche. They mount the turbo's pretty much exactly like that.
And hey, Theres really no messy manifold to make either! Just slap on a T3 flange to some where in the exhaust stream and your set. I really do wonder how bad the spool is on that setup!
EDIT: downsides I can see right now...
- Oil feed line must be extreemly long.
- Oil drain? stumped.
- Turbo is probubly really close to the gas tank.

Re: Doesn't this turbo setup look odd? (Bryson)
It'll be easy to clean the filter, but it'll need to be done twice a day. Debrise will penitrate the filter element and be sucked in by the impellar which will then explode sending fragments of metal into the combustion chamber... if it can make it down all of that piping. Need an intercooler? That charge pipe is so long that it'll probably cool the charge sufficiently by the time it reaches the TB with all the air flow under the car

[minor detail] Hmm... yeah, but they also put the motors back there too [/minor detail]
File that car under the creative but pointless category.

I dont think I would want a 1600 degrees right next to my fuel tank! What happens if the car bottoms out?

I would also vote that this is a weird and dumb idea. Why not just put the turbo on the roof so everyone can see how cool you are?!

Re: Doesn't this turbo setup look odd? (CivicSoul)
i guess he needs a skid plate to protect the turbo from road debris and occassional bottom outs.
thinks it's not that bad..i mean the turbo will be cooled while car is in motion, cold air intake with the filter placement.
guess the problems would be having to use a pump for the oil and coolant lines, especially the oil return line. and another problem is the filter would tend to suck in more dirt, debris and maybe water.
and of course, lag.

Re: Doesn't this turbo setup look odd? (turb)
unless i am seeing it wrong the entire setup is as high or higher than the differential, in which case he shouldn't have to worry about bottoming out. as for debris in the filter, i doubt it would be any worse than a cai. i would think lag would be a concern, and i would definately put some heat sheilding between the turbo and the gas tank.
