That's called a tur-bo-charger. You see, it pressurizes the intake air, so you make more power.

What I can't figure out, is what the hell kind of car that is.

I was trying to figure that out. It's something mid/rear engined, like a porsche, or an NXS, or quite possibly something much cheaper. I haven't been able to figure it out yet though.

 

I thought it was mid/rear engined at first, but it is not.. on the right side of the driveshaft/bell housing the exhaust comes from the engine in the front to the back and on the left side the charge pipe goes up to the engine... they even run an oil line that far!!??! it is the blue line I think...

it looks to me like you may have found a pic of the worst designed turbo system ever

yeah, definetly something a lot cheaper. http://66.43.184.45/sts1.jpg is that the engine bay? if so the the car isn't a mid/rear engine. which doesnt make fit the second picture.

and is that piping i see going to the front of the car? if you look carefully you can see coupings on the pipes. (or at least that's what they look like) it also looks like there's exhuast piping running from the front of the car that connects to the turbine housing. maybe that is the engine bay in the link above.

I think it is something front engined rear drive. Look at the rearend and the drive shaft going to the other end of the car. The charge pipe runs on one side of the drive shaft and the exhaust on the other.
What I dont get is why put the turbo all the way in the back?? Cramped engine bay, sleeper, not wanting to get a real turbo manifold??

I'm baffled on what it is?? looks like a cheap kit so i doubt its on a high end car like a porsche. There is a lingenfelter C5 around here that looks bone stock under the hood to where i had no idea it wasnt stock at all.you couldnt see one aftermarket line or fitting and it was twin turbo and everything was on the underside of the car. the guy said thats what you get when you pay 15k for a turbo kit.

 

my friend sent me the pic this morning, it is wierd. I thought it was a mid mounted rear drive car too but then i saw the drive shaft coming from the front.

 

HAHA! Thats a really shitty spot for the turbo. Cant imagine the oil seals lasting very long. But the car looks to be a Chevy Camaro with a LT-1 motor....

STS turbocharger systems... it's a Camero.

Good design for a stock type bolt-on turbocharger, they do their kits (full custom most cars) for 3-4k intercooled...

works ok, but a header type turbo system provides better boost pressures.... they also have a toyota V-8 turbocharged in the same manner. seems to work pretty good, especially for the money....

designed not for high performance, but for a good boost in HP over stock..

Why the **** would anyone put the turbo back there?

people say it might be a camaro or somthing along those lines maybe even a mustang....think of it as a V8 or even v6 and spooling it would be a lil laggy but those cars dump alot exhaust fumes and can spool that turbo very easily...i think if it works good its a great idea...think of ur jdm type r header going to a t3/t4 tucked up somewhere and having the charge pipes end with a aem intake...a all motor looking car pushing 300whp lol....

I forget which super car it is but they have twin turbo's mounted the same way on the exhaust. But im pretty sure it was a mid engine configure......
