does the piping AFTER the intercooler have to a metal type?

does the piping AFTER the intercooler have to a metal type?
why not just go plastic?i can go to homehardware and pick up enough plumbing gear and make my own connecting pipes, i mean after the intercooler the temps should be at atleast ambient, nothing hot enough to melt pvc ( or whatever it is)
plus i plan to use those tape/heatshields on my exhaust to keep engine bay temps down
would this be acceptable?

well there is a diffrence between using cheap parts for something that has to be of quality make ( like lets say a titanium retainer in an engine that sees 10 000 + rpm vs a stock one)
this is just an intake pipe, as long as its sealed and doesnt melt it should work just as well no?

I dunno man I know that with pvc pipes the elbows that you will be using will not be the most free flowing things in the world. There will be a whole bunch of ridges that might disrupt the airflow.

I think pcv pipes also give off toxic fumes when heated... You could try rubber hoses (DSM use it stock)

you can get enough piping for charge pipes from JC whitney for like $35.
If you cant afford $30-50 for charge pipes then you have NO business going turbo.

yeah i know..... but... i wana try to do this all on my own, since i dont own a welder and havent used one in like 4 years, and i only welded big sticks of steel with other big sticks... lol
cuz if i go to a shop they will start charging me stupidly high prices unless you know the owner or something, 25 bux an hour for labour i mean come on!!
but i'm just throwing ideas around, and the pvc only creates fumes when it melts, and i hardly doubt after intercooler temps are hot enough to melt plastic... i mean the intake pipe on stock d16's is plastic!!! you dont see it melting

You can buy the Jc whitney stuff. and use hose coupling to connect the pipes. no welding involved.

I cut some of my charge piping with a metal grinder. It was a ghetto cut, but it did the job.

Don't use plastic. Worst case, buy some bends and just clamps them together with sections of rubber hose (radiator hose for trucks works great).
For pipes, go to:

Re: (RTErnie)
I tried a pvc elbow from the last charge pipe to the throttle body and it kept melting...
if you post what area you live in, there are so many DIYers here you may be able to find someone to weld for you for free or close to it

Why not but a cheap cold air intake from e-bay and 180degree bend, clamp it up and call it a day? Saves you some cuts and usually fits nicely.

umm... pvc is good for a few HUNDRED PSI... what kind of engine are you running that needs more than that??

I get charge pipes for free at the junkyard all the time. Some saabs and volvos have aluminum mandrel bends and tons of nice rubber fittings. Even if you had to pay I bet it would only be like $20. I just did a whole car with volvo and Vw pipes. came out looking stock (put a WRX topmount on a G60 Corrado).
