Also, if you really want to get into the debate go PM the user Brent on http://www.turbomustangs.com. He went from a normal sized front mounted air/air intercooler to a massive air/water intercooler mounted in the back seat, and datalogged no difference in how quickly boost comes on. That's a lot greater change in volume than going from a small to a big front mounted intercooler.

its a precision turbo untercooler... actually cost more then the big one... i think its like 21x6x3.5 or something .. i am going to flat black it and leave it sleeper anyway... maybe upgrade to the bigger IC sometime if i decide to run more boost.. and after i see how this one works out

If that is the case, the core dimensions are 24"x12"x3"--- bar & plate w/ 3" in/out.

IMHO, those name brand IC are overly priced. Those ebay intercoolers are just as efficient. I made 433whp & 323wtq on my SE-R with that intercooler. After a dyno pull, the coldside, it was nice and cool.</TD></TR></TABLE>

i dont want this, cool to a touch after a dyno pull. i want to see it heat soak stuck in traffic or 10 runs from a complete stop one after the other and tell tell me how efficent these intercoolers are.

if your just saying it feels cold to the touch after one dyno run is not enough for me.

i bet you belive that AEM intake piping makes more power than ebay piping too dont you

Here's my used trust $150 IC. It's meant for a 2JZ sedan and is rated to 750hp.

From judging by the pictures its one of those china ebay intercoolers.

I would sell it and get a garret, Greddy, Apexi, ARC, or even precesion intercooler ASAP.</TD></TR></TABLE>

please explain why. IMO your just paying for a name, true a name usually means more quality but intercoolers dont have many moving parts to break and a core is a core

core is a core is NOT true. If the air passages or cooling channels are too small then the IC will be strictive or will have very little cooling effect. All you will get is major pressure drop across the IC.

my brother has an "ebay" intercooler.

it has a core that would flow as well or better than my spearco.

sometimes you are paying for merely a "name". many of the generic intercoolers are exact copies of name brands. they really aren't that complicated.

There's not too much special about intercoolers - just a few types of design differences. The type of passage (bar/plate, etruded or finned tube), the type of fins used (3 typed of fin 'louvering' types IIRC), thickness/size of fins, passages, overall, and endtanks.

IMO you don't need a gigantic core on a honda, unless you're striving for that extra 10th shaved off at the strip. The fact is that air velocity plays a big factor too. I know that watercooling sees benifits when certain designs are applied, of which velocity creating turbulance and disturbing the 'film' of liquid on the radiator's surface. Pure and simple, you won't see efficient cooling w/o turbulance - air is even better than h2o at insulating. I know some engineers with thermodynamics degrees that might site some documentation if y'all don't believe me.

I'm not saying you can't go with the giant ebay IC's, but when people are making 300whp on a 24"x5.75"x2.75" tube/fin $155 JRC core, I'm not about to argue it's price-to-performance ratio. Less surface area and higher pressure drop aren't always proportional to cooling decrease when you have the benifit of velocity/turbulance.

Well then go do your own controlled tests on heatsoak and pressure loss. Nobody is going to go meter the intake temps on both sides of the IC in various driving situations for your own personal satifaction. You don't like it, don't use it.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, didn't want to start a new thread. If I plan on making at least 350 hp (maybe a little more) will the small Precision intercooler be enough, or do I need to get the medium one thats rated to 600 hp?
