what did you expect to feel from a small turbo with no intercooler and 5.5psi?

after reading the install that turbo magazine did with my kit, unintercooled i figured it would feel faster than a typeR and it doesn't, my friends R felt faster. and my friends all motor B16 puts mine to shame

Your CAT might be clogged though with just the blue box I wouldn't expect miracles

usually the big name magazines get paid more money to praise a product rather then be honest. This isn't true all the time, but in your case it probably is. If you went to the dyno right now, I wouldn't be surprised if you put down 130whp. intercool it, up the boost, and hondata will get you around 200

i have been known to be a sucker, but the magazine article showed dyno sheets i believe, i can post a link if you would like to see, i believe they put down 174 to the wheels with no IC and no fuel management.

If you put down anything over 150whp, you would be thinking you could take a type r. with that small turbo you should get some nice torque after you finish your kit.

forget the tranny and clutch FOR NOW and get that intercooler in. custom piping doesnt cost much it cost me about $30-40 for piping and about $20-30 for couplers and clamps.

im glad there are many sohc turbo supporters here...

I was pretty content with my old turbo sohc. It put down 146 whp/142 lbs-torque @ 5-6 psi. By no means was it a super car, but definately enjoyable around town.

Time to take it to a dyno buddy and see what exactly you're running and where your a/f ratios are at. Then start with the upgrades that everyone is mentioning, I'm sure you'll see at least 200 whp in the future.

280whp/215wtq d16 in a hatch or crx = a waste of time?

Remove your cat now. You will be very happy should be. I put a rev hard kit on my b16 and it felt like crap until i removed the cat.

13.1 > 12....

You need to get your car tuned asap. Tuning is what makes a HUge difference. set the boost to about 8 psi (intercooled of course) with a decent a/f ratio and you'll be VERY satisfied.

d16y8... stock internals... 165whp/140wtq at 5.5ish psi... 14.8 @ 93 on shitty slipping pos centerforce df clutch. 194whp/164wtq @ 8.5psi on a T3 60 trim. IMO... not a waste to me... all my friends who spent money on swaps can't beat me even at 6psi (on is a b18c w/ bolt ons in a coupe and one is a 00 b16a si w/ ctr pistnos and bolt ons). sorry we're all not rich enough to buy dohc's

hehe, i know the feeling man!
my buddy just swapped a b18b in his coupe and i finished my install the same weekend... needless to say, my car in 3rd gear @ 3.5k punch is faster than his in 2nd gear at 5.5k punch... and it wasn't even close either (6 inefficient psi on a t3/to4e)

don't give up man! make sure you get it tuned, check all ur piping and make sure no couplers blew off. good luck!

Well i can think of a couple reasons...

1. Gsr w i/h/e, cam gears tuned running 14.5 in the quarter gettin beat by a civic dx boosted only @ 7psi

2. Audi S3 chipped loosing by 1car to a civic dx boosting only 7psi

3. GSX boosting 16psi losing to a dxt boosting 8psi (by two cars)

4. Nissan 200sx w/sr20det losing by 4 cars to a dxt boosting 8psi

5. 90-91ish supra/turbo losing by 2cars to a dxt boosting 7psi

6. Civic Type R chipped losing by 4 cars to a dxt boosting 7psi

and the list goes on....love seeing there face when i pop my hood....i am going dohc this summer though....

just got mine done: d16y7, obd2, 450cc dsm, resistor box, safc, td04L, starion fmic (total homemade setup). 145 whp 138 wtq at 5.5 psi. going to up it to 11psi when i get the chance to go back to the dyno. my original settings were only putting down 122 and it felt better than stock, but i knew there was more there. it was running VERY rich and he was able to tune it so much better.

sohc to me is the better way to go. if i blow it i can get a new motor for $500 or less. hell, most of the folks that have done dohc swaps will give it away to get it out of the garage so they stop stubbing thier little toseys.

put on your fmic and get it tuned. you'll be happy.

if youwant an 11 sec street car sohc is prolly not the way to go but if you are like me and 12's are your goal going sohc is fine and cheaper, the 280whp crx I spoke of previously ran a 12.5 on slicks @ 16 or 17psi

my 97 EX runs almost identical times with an ITR

I am a greddy kit non intercooled with 5psi

so if it doesn't feel faster than your friends ITR your probably right it feels the same
