Default Diesel Truck BOV Neat Innovations

well after looking over some parts for my truck im about to purchase i came accros this BOV by "BD TurboGuard"

it seems the BOV has a small microprocessor that lets you "fine tune" it, such as when the clutch is pressed in during shifts

MY question is, would this be beneficial in a racing application?

here is a pic

and here is the link

kinda pricey but seems kinda effective

If there's no throttle to close, why the need for a blow off valve?

Because it makes cool sounds and gets rid of that money that's burning a hole in your pocket

talk about total rip off.. $42 to ship ?? how much does it weigh?? 50 lbs?? you can ship 2 decent sized turbos for less than $42 bucks..

So basically, for $580 they used computers, solenoids, and wiring to replace the action of a simple and cheap vacuum diaphragm.

Awsome. Reminds me of the E-Throttle. What's the point?

The point is diesels don't work like gasoline engines. The pedal basicly controls the injector, and the TB is eliminated, I'm not up to speed on diesels though. Kinda like learning to scuba dive in Kansas for me.

The reason it needs all that crap is because you don't see vacuum in the manifold when you let off the pedal. And the bigger the turbo, the longer it takes to spin down. I'd assume its more for relieving stress and 'bling' based on what I know of diesels.

have any of you actually seen one of these in person?

it is a tial bov w/ a vaccum mechanism and a solenoid to open the valve.

One of my brother's idiot friends' has a duracrap diesel and some gnarly turbo pushing like 80 batrillion pounds of torque, he has all kinds of gidgets and gadgets. I hate the guy, he's dumb as expletive.. but thats beside the point.
He has one of those e-bov's it does sound pretty gnarly; plus he's running about 60psi of boost.

But yea the turbo on that truck surges like mad when you let off the gas so I can see why seriously modded DAILY DRIVEn diesels would bennifet from it. Race diesels won't need it because they dont let off the gas much; same with a lot of gas turbo race only cars, they dont use bov's either.

Why do they surge when you let off the gas?

I dont know; thats a TON of air flowing through there. He's running some massive turbo w/ a 4" or so inlet; 3" charge pipes, and an intercooler that looks like it came off a semi.

When he lets off the gas without the vavle it sounds like a hand grenade; it'll scare little children.

Can't exactly describe it, but On my old duramax diesel. If I went full throttle, say doing a burnout or launching in 4wd. If I let off really quick the turbo would surge "bark". Even though I know there's no throttle body. I'm still figuring there's some kinda of back pressure that can build. I'm not a diesel expert. So, I kinda have an idea of what causes it. But it's hard for me to describe. I just know for a fact that turbo surging "barking"(what some of the Diesel guys like to call it) is some what of a problem on modifed turbo diesels. I use to read about guys tearing up turbo's because it's can be so violent. Watch some video's of some pullin trucks and you'll hear it at the end of the pull when let off real fast.

Here's a video of what it sounds like. THis truck might have some type of BOV, but you can here the surge at the very begining of him letting off. This is what my truck would do..

Watch out, all the ricers are going to buy a TDI tomorrow!

I know its not uncommon for heavy duty rigs to run exhaust brakes, which would in a way be like the blockage of TB, esp if it was after the turbo.

Yea thats surge you can hear in teh vid. Come to think of it, i had the intake off of a buddies powerstroke and if you rev it and let off you can hear a little compressor surge..So i guess the BOV could so some kind of good..maybe.

my main concern was not the fact that it was a BOV for a diesel or anything like but the tune-ability and the microprocessor part. my biggest thing was the "no loss of boost during shifts" part

our duramax's at the shop low mid to low 7 second 1/8th miles ETs, and only have tial 50mms on them, just wondering what this could/would do for turbo hondas
