Did a search, What's the difference between a supercharger and turbo?
Sorry for the newbie question 
but what's the difference. Someone told me that a supercharger engages at a certain RPM but I don't know if that's true or not.

A Supercharger starts boosting early because it provides positive intake pressure by running a belt off of the crank. Therefore it will provide boost earlier than a turbo which develops boost by utilizing exhaust gases that are diverted to spin a turbine powered compressor to boost the intake gases. Therefore, turbo boost develops as a function of rpm and engine load.

id say you didnt do an extensive search.
supercharger is belt driven and there is a parasitic loss cause your using engine power to drive the belt.
turbo runs off of spent exhaust gasses but takes longer to spool. youll get more power out of turbo though.

supercharger takes power from your motor to make power, turbo takes exhaust gas and forces it down your intake manifold, making power.

Ok, so a turbo works by using exhaust gasses to spin a turbine which forces air through the intake manifold? Is this correct?
