Default detonation while using afc/hack

I have been reading that when you use the afc/hack the ecu will think you are running lean and advance the timing. Can u run stock timing if you are going to run between 5-8psi? Any one with a boosted ls using the afc hack keep stock timing?

Yeah, that's what I did when running the hack. I was told that at 7 psi, I could get away with only retarding maybe 1 or 2 degrees, but I went ahead and did -3. Robbed me of a lot of power, but I knew I was safe that way. Never detonated from the looks of my plugs, but they showed signs of running rich as hell.

you can still do this on an obd2 car? and what direction (to the front or the rear of the car) do you turn the dizzy to retard the timing?

Yeah, still works on OBDII. Retard is clockwise, so that would be turning the distributor towards the front of the car.

i don't have ls, but i do have obd2 d16y7. i just have my timing handled by msd btm....1/3degree per 1psi. not quite 3 degrees of retard at 9psi and i don't seem to have any detonation.
