Default learned a very important lesson about the AFC hack today..

Ok... No one has really adressed this ever from what I have read through long hours of reading and searching, and I have done plenty of research on the hack.
no one has ever adressed the issue of timing on the hack.. people have just said that it advances timing when you run the hack.. And today I figured out how it becomes advanced in the first place.

ok when you are using the hack. you can only richen the fuel mixture you cannot lean it, besides why would you want to lean it anyway. what I have found today through lots of abuse on my motor and a hellllluva lot of detonating, is that when you have a small area lean on the curve, as in your map looks like

35,35,32,33,35 on hvt it will advance it crazy amounts! as in 8+ degrees from what you have retarded. so if you have your timing set to 5 degrees retard it would be now 3 degrees advanced. get what I am saying here? seriously if I didn't figure this out I would not have a motor anymore. I had set my timing to 8 degrees retard and it was advanving it enough to cause some seriously nasty detonating. ryan autry was one witness.

I hope that helps anyone that is having tuning problems.

If you don't understand how an AFC affects your ECU, then you shouldn't be using one in the first place.. regardless if you're using the hack or not, the effects are still the same when you 'lean' it out

well. what I mean is a mao like -35,-35,-40,-37,-35 that will advance your timing. a map like -40 -35 -33 -32 that wont. and if you dont believe me, go try it.. btw you have one post.

I am having the same problem that is why I am gettin rid of that stupid hack and gettin a fmu for the rest of summer. you can run a FMU on 450cc injectors and just run more boost and you will be fine(if your motor can handle it)

No one has ever addressed the problem? Chopped liver, am I?

http://pgmfi.org/phorum/read.php?f=35&i=1&t=1

In the trailerpark, we make $15 voltage regulators that replace the AFC, and tune OBD0 cars with Ghettodyne for this. Ghettodyne 2.2 boost is built on an ECU-side AFC/MAP hack, but it has stuttering in the NA range issues which is why I'd rather run OBD0 cars on MAPhack boxes.

OBD1, well, boost code is free. No need to fiddle the MAP input anymore with $300 junk boxes. Willem (slightly user unfriendly, but still easy-ish to use) chip burners are ~$50, and a Batronix burner kit (very user friendly, you have to solder/assemble) runs ~$80 these days.

OBD2 people deserve the misery heaped on them by the world.

I didn't start this thread to glorify the hack, or talk about how great it was, I started it to help people that are having problems getting the thing to run right, because this may be the reason someones car may not run right on the hack. for me the hack isjust a way to get the car on the road before I get hondata.

2000vsm what did you want me to explain more.
