Default detonation??

Here's the scoop. 2000 Honda Prelude w/aftermarket turbo kit installed awhile back. Stock internals, 5-6psi boost. Deltagate, V-AFC, AVC-R, basic set-up. Running a step colder NGK plugs, and MSD 6BTM timing control. Still seeming like getting detonation and EGT temps are creeping past 1400 F. Does not boost well at all. Tried different fuel correction settings (as high as 35%) on V-AFC to try to cool it down, but still doesn't seem right. Anyone run into this before or have any suggestions?

Are you running an FMU or larger injectors? What is your MSD BTM set at? Have you bothered getting your setup tuned with a wideband? Stop boosting until you fix this problem or you are going to toast those pistons.

Its the full drag 2 kit. So yes there is the FMU. Stock injectors. I have messed with the BTM in many different settings and it doesnt seem to help. The egt runs high, and the Apexi afr flucuates between 12 and 18. I do have the V-AFC turned up to 35% in Hvt. ANy sugestions

H22A4 + detonation = boom
most honda engines + detonation = boom (all it takes is 1 time..and the most dangerous detonation is the type u can't hear)

don't ask me how I know this and don't ask me if I am getting new SRP 9.5:1's installed right NOW

You cannot just mess with your settings and hope for the best. You cannot rely on the Apexi a/f display, as it is still running off of your unreliable, stock, narrowband 4 wire O2 sensor system. You must get a fuel pressure gauge and have your setup tuned by a professional on a dyno with a wideband. There is no way around this. Keep going down the road you are, and you will be looking at a full engine rebuild. What you should do is dump the FMU, get appropriately sized injectors, get electronic engine management, and then get your setup tuned. And if you think you can't do any of this because it is too expensive, then you got yourself into the wrong hobby, and an engine rebuild is going to cost you $3k-$5k anyway, so you might as well do things right now or sell everything now and return your car to stock.

But whatever you do, STOP BOOSTING ON YOUR SETUP BEFORE YOU BLOW YOUR H22A4 MOTOR.

Your stock injectors are already working at over 80% duty cycle, there is no room for the VAFC to richen the mixture. On your setup, the only thing a vafc is good for is leaning out areas of the rpm band. You are supposed to be relying on your FMU to supply the fuel you need, and using the VAFC to lean areas out that need it. All of this requires a fuel pressure gauge, a dyno, a wideband, and someone who knows what they are doing.

i had the same problem....stock injectors, with inline and fmu....it didnt run well at all so i bought the V-AFC.....i only leaned it out -12% from 3000rpm - 8000rpm and VTEC contin at 4800 or 4900rpm (can't remember) and set the BTM at .65 or so and it runs pretty good. i will not do anymore until i get it on a dyno though.....and its pushing 6-7psi now.....

before that it did not run good at all.....after that setting i took it out to the tracks and ran a 14.33@102mph @5.5psi....only one run though...no helmet.....plugs looked good....greyish in color
